Grand Forks County (trfnews.i234.me) – Another day, another theft charge for a Grand Forks man.
According to court documents, 24-year-old Thomas J. Risberg is facing a felony charge after allegedly attempting to leave a grocery store on June 10th with a basket full of unpaid items. Authorities say Risberg did not attempt to pay before exiting the store, prompting staff to report the theft.
This isn’t his first run-in with shoplifting laws. It’s his fourth offense within the last four years, which automatically escalates this charge from a misdemeanor to felony theft of property under North Dakota law.
Repeat offenders like Risberg face stiffer penalties as courts aim to curb persistent retail theft, a growing concern for many stores in the region.
