Saint Paul, Ramsey County (trfnews.i234.me) – Police in Saint Paul have arrested a suspect after a horrifying discovery early Friday morning. Officers responded around 5:15 a.m. to a welfare check at a home on the 300 block of Edmund Avenue in the Frogtown neighborhood.
After knocking and receiving no response, officers entered the residence and found a woman unresponsive inside. Paramedics were immediately called to the scene but were unable to revive her. She was pronounced dead a short time later. Police reported visible signs of trauma on the woman’s body, and her death is being treated as a homicide. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the official cause of death and confirm her identity.
Inside the home, officers also found a 2-year-old girl alone. She was removed by paramedics for evaluation. According to early reports, the child appeared physically unharmed but had been unattended for an unknown period. Investigators later stated that they believe the toddler is the deceased woman’s daughter.
Officers remained at the scene throughout the morning as homicide investigators gathered evidence and canvassed the neighborhood for information. This tragic case marks the third homicide so far this year in Saint Paul, a decrease compared to the eight homicides recorded by this time last year, according to KARE-TV. Meanwhile, neighboring Minneapolis has reported 14 confirmed homicides so far in 2025, according to city crime dashboards.
On Saturday morning, May 3rd, Saint Paul Police announced the arrest of 34-year-old Joseph Davis of Saint Paul. He was booked into the Ramsey County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder. Authorities say formal charges are forthcoming, though specific details regarding the circumstances of his arrest were not immediately released.
Ramsey County court records show Davis has a troubling criminal history, with prior convictions for domestic assault, disorderly conduct, driving while intoxicated (DWI), fleeing police, and felony violation of a no-contact order. A booking photo for Davis has not yet been made available.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking crime, and more updates are expected in the coming days.
