Grand Forks, ND (trfnews.i234.me) — A pair of alleged accomplices are now facing felony charges after nearly $15,000 in cash and alcohol reportedly vanished from Hugo’s Wine and Spirits stores in Grand Forks and East Grand Forks.
Melissa Vargas, an employee at both locations, and Rodrigo Rodriguez Jr., are accused of orchestrating the theft by using fraudulent transactions. Vargas allegedly faked scanning items or voided purchases while Rodriguez walked off with unpaid goods.
During questioning, Vargas admitted, “I’ve done a few more voids than necessary,” and acknowledged taking small amounts from the till. When confronted with the $15,000 figure, she responded, “I believe it.”
Both suspects are now charged with felony theft of property and conspiracy to commit theft of property.
