A federal notice says the Somalia TPS designation will end at 11:59 p.m. local time on March 17, 2026.<\/p>\n

The notice estimates 1,082 people have current approved TPS under Somalia\u2019s designation.<\/p>\n

It also says 1,383 TPS applications were pending as of Dec. 8, 2025.<\/p>\n

What the administration said<\/h2>\n

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said conditions in Somalia have improved.<\/p>\n

Noem said Somalia no longer meets the legal standard for TPS.<\/p>\n

She also said continuing the status is not in the national interest.<\/p>\n

The TPS designation for Somalia has been renewed many times since the early 1990s.<\/p>\n

The most recent extension was issued under former President Joe Biden.<\/p>\n

Why Somalia is still disputed<\/h2>\n

Critics say Somalia remains unsafe in many areas.<\/p>\n

They point to ongoing violence and attacks by al-Shabaab.<\/p>\n
