Kittson County (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 A Grand Forks man faces new charges in Kittson County.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors have charged 29-year-old Joshua Nayid Figueroa of Grand Forks, North Dakota.
\nHe is accused of a reported domestic assault in Lancaster on November 11, 2025.<\/p>\n

Court records say Figueroa is charged with three counts.
\nThe first count is felony domestic assault by strangulation.
\nThe second count is gross misdemeanor domestic assault.
\nThe third count is gross misdemeanor, fifth-degree assault.<\/p>\n

According to the complaint, a woman called 911 around 9:04 p.m. on November 11.
\nShe reported that her boyfriend was pushing her while she held her young son.
\nDeputies went to an apartment in Lancaster to check the report.<\/p>\n

Figueroa spoke with deputies outside the building, according to the filing.
\nHe said the pair argued after a trip from Grand Forks, North Dakota.
\nHe claimed he pushed a door open, breaking it, while trying to leave with a child.
\nHe told deputies he pinned the woman against a wall to stop her from hitting him.<\/p>\n

The complaint says deputies saw damage to a door in the home.
\nThey also noted a minor injury to the woman\u2019s nose and redness on her neck.
\nBased on their findings, deputies arrested Figueroa at the scene.
\nHe was taken to the Pennington County Jail.<\/p>\n

In a taped statement, the woman said the argument started after a hospital visit in Grand Forks.
\nShe told deputies that Figueroa became upset about her phone and a message to a coworker.
\nShe reported that, at the apartment, he pushed her twice while she held her son.
\nShe said she nearly dropped the child and then did drop him.<\/p>\n

The woman told deputies Figueroa, then grabbed her by the neck with one hand.
\nShe said she could not breathe and told him to let her go.
\nShe reported that he pinned her against a wall and squeezed her arms.
\nShe said he later released her and went to gather his belongings.<\/p>\n

The complaint states that Figueroa forced the door open again after she shut it.
\nDeputies later photographed the damage to the door and the woman\u2019s reported injuries.<\/p>\n

Court records also note a past conviction for Figueroa.
\nOn March 28, 2023, he was convicted of domestic violence\u2013bodily injury in Grand Forks County, North Dakota.
\nThat case was filed under number 18-2022-CR-01961.<\/p>\n

A felony domestic assault by strangulation conviction in Minnesota can carry up to three years in prison and a fine.
