MAHNOMEN COUNTY, Minn.<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2013 A Wisconsin man faces felony drug possession and misdemeanor DWI charges following a traffic stop on Highway 200 in Mahnomen County.<\/p>\n

Cody James Peters Sr., 37, of Green Bay, Wisconsin<\/strong>, is accused of possessing methamphetamine and operating a vehicle with controlled substances in his system.<\/p>\n

According to a criminal complaint filed in Mahnomen County District Court, laboratory testing confirmed methamphetamine and fentanyl in substances recovered during the investigation.<\/p>\n

Traffic Stop on Highway 200<\/h2>\n

The incident occurred September 23, 2025, at approximately 9:00 p.m.<\/p>\n

Law enforcement had received information suggesting occupants of a vehicle might be involved in narcotics distribution.<\/p>\n

An officer spotted the vehicle traveling westbound on State Highway 200 in Mahnomen County.<\/p>\n

According to the complaint, the vehicle did not immediately pull over when emergency lights and sirens were activated.<\/p>\n

Police reported that it moved erratically while slowing toward the roadside.<\/p>\n

The officer also noticed a rear-seat passenger moving around inside the vehicle.<\/p>\n

Driver Arrested on Wisconsin Warrant<\/h2>\n

After the vehicle stopped, police identified the driver as Peters.<\/p>\n

Authorities discovered he had an active Wisconsin warrant and placed him under arrest.<\/p>\n

According to court documents, Peters admitted having methamphetamine and fentanyl inside the vehicle.<\/p>\n

He reportedly directed officers to a small pouch inside the driver’s door.<\/p>\n

During questioning, investigators observed slow, slurred speech, unusual pupil reactions, and visible sweating.<\/p>\n

Peters also allegedly acknowledged using narcotics approximately two hours before the traffic stop.<\/p>\n

Police Discover Suspected Drugs Inside Vehicle<\/h2>\n

Investigators searched the vehicle and discovered several items associated with suspected drug possession.<\/p>\n

According to the complaint, officers found a bag containing smaller plastic baggies near the driver’s seat.<\/p>\n

Inside a circular zippered pouch in the driver’s door, authorities located a bag containing a white crystalline substance.<\/p>\n

They also recovered a glass vial containing white powder.<\/p>\n

Another small plastic baggie was reportedly discovered on the ground near the rear driver’s-side door.<\/p>\n

Crime Lab Confirms Methamphetamine and Fentanyl<\/h2>\n

The seized substances were submitted to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension for laboratory examination.<\/p>\n

According to an August 21, 2026, laboratory report, the crystalline material weighed approximately 2.872 grams<\/strong> and contained methamphetamine.<\/p>\n

A separate powder sample weighed approximately 0.799 grams<\/strong> and contained both methamphetamine and fentanyl.<\/p>\n

The two tested samples had a combined weight of approximately 3.671 grams<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Investigators also obtained a search warrant for a blood or urine sample from Peters.<\/p>\n

Peters provided a urine sample.<\/p>\n

According to a November 18, 2025, BCA report, his urine contained amphetamine and methamphetamine.<\/p>\n

Felony Drug Possession and DWI Charges Filed<\/h2>\n

Prosecutors charged Peters with fifth-degree controlled substance possession under Minnesota Statute 152.025<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The felony carries a maximum possible sentence of five years in prison, a $10,000 fine, or both.<\/p>\n

He also faces a misdemeanor DWI charge under Minnesota Statute 169A.20<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The DWI allegation involves the presence of amphetamine and methamphetamine in his system.<\/p>\n

That misdemeanor carries a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail, a $1,000 fine, or both.<\/p>\n

Although officers initially suspected possible drug distribution, the complaint does not charge Peters with selling narcotics.<\/p>\n

Mahnomen County Court Case<\/h2>\n

The case is filed in Minnesota’s Ninth Judicial District under court file number 44-CR-26-614<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The criminal complaint lists a summons for Peters.<\/p>\n

The charges arise from the September 23, 2025, traffic stop, with laboratory reports completed in 2025 and 2026.<\/p>\n

The allegations have not been proven in court. Peters is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.<\/p>\n
