FARGO, ND<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2013 A Fargo man and Moorhead woman face felony kidnapping charges after a woman was discovered chained to a bed inside a south Fargo apartment.<\/p>\n

Police made the discovery Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 4911 44th Avenue South.<\/p>\n

The woman told investigators she had been confined for nearly two years and suffered repeated abuse.<\/p>\n

Authorities arrested Arturo Calzada-Becerril, 40, of Fargo, and Erendira Amoles, 41, of Moorhead.<\/p>\n

Maintenance Worker Hears Cries for Help<\/h2>\n

According to court documents, a maintenance worker heard cries for help coming from a third-floor apartment.<\/p>\n

After entering the unit, the worker discovered a woman chained to a bed inside a bedroom.<\/p>\n

Responding officers found a chain secured around her ankle. The other end was attached to the bed.<\/p>\n

A security camera was also positioned toward the woman.<\/p>\n

Officers used bolt cutters to remove the chains and free her.<\/p>\n

Police initially communicated with the woman through a translation service before transporting her to a hospital.<\/p>\n

Woman Claims She Was Confined for Two Years<\/h2>\n

The woman told investigators she was brought to Fargo from Mexico in 2024.<\/p>\n

She claimed Calzada-Becerril prevented her from leaving the apartment for approximately two years.<\/p>\n

During a hospital interview, she identified Calzada-Becerril as her husband and said she no longer wanted the marriage.<\/p>\n

She also described being confined to a bedroom and receiving food twice daily.<\/p>\n

According to court documents, she was forced to use a bucket because she could not leave the room.<\/p>\n

Investigators documented bruises on her face, arms, and legs.<\/p>\n

The woman alleged that Calzada-Becerril and Amoles physically beat and sexually assaulted her.<\/p>\n

These allegations remain part of the ongoing criminal proceedings.<\/p>\n

Chains, Padlocks, and Camera Found<\/h2>\n

Investigators described several chains attached to a specially constructed bed headboard.<\/p>\n

The chains were secured with bolts, washers, nuts, and padlocks.<\/p>\n

Some chains were covered with foam material.<\/p>\n

Authorities also discovered windows covered with aluminum foil and another chain inside the bathroom.<\/p>\n

A webcam faced the bed. Investigators said Calzada-Becerril could access the camera through his phone.<\/p>\n

However, the camera was reportedly deactivated when investigators examined it.<\/p>\n

Suspects Explain Why Woman Was Restrained<\/h2>\n

During police interviews, Calzada-Becerril claimed the woman had previously struggled with drug use and mental health problems.<\/p>\n

He said the restraints were intended to prevent her from running away and seeking drugs.<\/p>\n

Amoles reportedly admitted she frequently locked the woman inside the bedroom.<\/p>\n

She also claimed the woman behaved unpredictably and attempted to escape when unrestrained.<\/p>\n

However, investigators found no documented mental health diagnosis or drug rehabilitation records supporting those explanations.<\/p>\n

Court documents also stated the suspects had not arranged appropriate medical treatment or contacted social services.<\/p>\n

Felony Kidnapping Charges Filed<\/h2>\n

Both suspects were arrested November 3 and formally charged Thursday, November 5.<\/p>\n

Calzada-Becerril and Amoles each face felony kidnapping charges involving allegations of terrorizing the victim.<\/p>\n

Calzada-Becerril also faces a domestic violence charge. Amoles faces an additional simple assault charge.<\/p>\n

Both defendants were scheduled for arraignment Friday morning, November 6, in Cass County Court.<\/p>\n

The charges are allegations. Both defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.<\/p>\n

The investigation remains ongoing.<\/p>\n
