Daunte Robert Curry Lesetmoe, 25, is accused of insurance and vehicle equipment violations following an August 19, 2026, traffic stop.<\/p>\n

According to a Becker County District Court complaint, the incident began along Minnesota Highway 34.<\/p>\n

Lifted GMC Pickup Draws Police Attention<\/h2>\n

At approximately 3:11 p.m., an officer noticed a black 2007 GMC Sierra traveling eastbound through Detroit Lakes.<\/p>\n

The truck had a custom lift kit, oversized tires, and an aftermarket front bumper, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

The bumper appeared nearly three feet above the ground.<\/p>\n

Authorities also reported that the tires extended several inches beyond the fenders.<\/p>\n

The officer believed those modifications created possible safety concerns for other motorists.<\/p>\n

The vehicle’s dark window tint also raised concerns about compliance with Minnesota law.<\/p>\n

Police stopped the truck and identified Lesetmoe as the driver.<\/p>\n

Insurance Check Reveals Coverage Discrepancy<\/h2>\n

During the stop, Lesetmoe reportedly could not provide proof of insurance for the pickup.<\/p>\n

He told authorities that his girlfriend insured the vehicle.<\/p>\n

After allowing time to obtain proof, the officer instructed Lesetmoe to provide insurance information within ten days.<\/p>\n

On August 20, Lesetmoe emailed a Progressive Insurance card listing the truck under an insurance policy.<\/p>\n

The card showed a policy period running from April 26 through October 26, 2026.<\/p>\n

However, the officer contacted Progressive Insurance to verify whether the pickup was covered during the traffic stop.<\/p>\n

According to the complaint, Progressive reported that the vehicle was added on August 20 at 11:22 a.m.<\/p>\n

The company reportedly confirmed that the truck was not insured on August 19.<\/p>\n

Three Charges Filed in Becker County<\/h2>\n

Prosecutors filed three charges stemming from the traffic stop.<\/p>\n

The most serious charge involves failure to provide proof of insurance with qualifying prior convictions.<\/p>\n

That gross misdemeanor falls under Minnesota Statute 169.791<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A gross misdemeanor conviction can carry up to 364 days in jail, a $3,000 fine, or both.<\/p>\n

Lesetmoe also faces a misdemeanor unsafe equipment charge under Minnesota Statute 169.47<\/a>.<\/p>\n

That charge carries a possible maximum of 90 days in jail, a $1,000 fine, or both.<\/p>\n

The third charge involves window tint restrictions under Minnesota Statute 169.71<\/a>.<\/p>\n

That offense is classified as a petty misdemeanor.<\/p>\n

Previous Insurance Violations Listed<\/h2>\n

The complaint also references six previous insurance-related convictions found during a Department of Public Safety records check.<\/p>\n
