FARGO, N.D. (trfnews.i234.me) — Fargo police are warning residents about a fraudulent website advertising trucks for sale under the name “Vitran Express.”

Authorities say the website uses the address of a legitimate Fargo business that has no connection to the advertised vehicles.

The warning follows reports of prospective buyers arriving at that business expecting to purchase trucks.

Fake Truck Website Uses Fargo Business Address

According to the Fargo Police Department, the website advertises trucks while listing an unrelated business as its physical location.

People interested in purchasing vehicles have reportedly traveled to that location after viewing the online advertisements.

However, police confirmed the business does not sell the advertised trucks and is not involved in the transactions.

The situation has raised concerns that potential buyers could lose money through fraudulent vehicle sales.

Police have not released details about the people operating the website.

Authorities also have not publicly identified any confirmed financial losses connected with the reported activity.

Fargo Police Issue Public Scam Warning

In an October 30, 2026, warning, Fargo police urged consumers to carefully verify online vehicle sellers.

The department advised buyers to confirm a seller’s identity before sending payments or making purchase arrangements.

The warning was shared through the department’s official Facebook page.

Residents can read the Fargo Police Department’s public warning.

Police have not established that the unrelated business participated in any fraudulent activity.

The website’s use of the name “Vitran Express” does not establish wrongdoing by any legitimate business sharing that name.

How to Avoid Fake Vehicle Sales Websites

The Federal Trade Commission warns that scammers sometimes create convincing copies of legitimate dealership websites.

These websites may display vehicle photographs, business logos, customer reviews, and attractive prices.

The FTC recommends independently researching sellers and inspecting vehicles before making payments.

Consumers should also confirm the seller actually operates at the advertised address.

Buyers should be cautious when a seller demands an upfront wire transfer or refuses an independent vehicle inspection.

Unusually attractive deals may also deserve additional scrutiny before money changes hands.

These are general fraud prevention recommendations, not confirmed details about the Fargo website.

How to Report the Fargo Truck Sales Scam

Anyone who encountered the suspected website or believes they were targeted is encouraged to contact law enforcement.

The Red River Regional Dispatch Center accepts non-emergency reports at 701-451-7660.

Consumers can also submit fraud reports through the Federal Trade Commission’s ReportFraud website.

People who already paid a suspected scammer should contact their bank or payment provider immediately.

Saving screenshots, payment records, website addresses, and communications may help investigators review a suspected scam.

The Fargo Police Department continues urging buyers to verify online sellers before completing vehicle purchases.
