Grygla, MN<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me)<\/a> \u2014 Doris Cleven, a longtime member of the Grygla and Warroad communities, died December 31, 2025.<\/p>\n

She was 91.<\/p>\n

Her family said she died at Warroad Senior Living Center in Warroad.<\/p>\n

They said family members were at her side.<\/p>\n

Early life<\/h2>\n

Doris was born August 7, 1934, in Hamre Township near Grygla.<\/p>\n

Her parents were Oliver Howland and Serine (Tanem) Howland.<\/p>\n

She was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviour\u2019s Lutheran Church in rural Grygla.<\/p>\n

She attended area schools while growing up.<\/p>\n

She later graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls.<\/p>\n

Marriage and farm life<\/h2>\n

Doris married Harlan Milton Cleven on September 3, 1955.<\/p>\n

The wedding was held at Our Saviour\u2019s Lutheran Church.<\/p>\n

The couple built their home on the Cleven family farm.<\/p>\n

They raised three children.<\/p>\n

They are Verlene, Milo, and Michael.<\/p>\n

Family said Doris worked alongside Harlan on the farm.<\/p>\n

She helped with cattle work and small grain farming.<\/p>\n

Family said she also ran a busy home.<\/p>\n

Known for kindness and service<\/h2>\n

Relatives described Doris as warm and welcoming.<\/p>\n

They said she had a bright smile and an easy laugh.<\/p>\n

They said she was known for cooking and baking.<\/p>\n

Her garden and canned goods were part of family life.<\/p>\n

She enjoyed cards and games with friends and family.<\/p>\n

Her family said she loved playing Rook.<\/p>\n

She also enjoyed quilting and hand embroidery.<\/p>\n

She liked music and time outdoors.<\/p>\n

Family said she picked blueberries and chokecherries.<\/p>\n

She also processed venison for the family.<\/p>\n

She spent time at a family cabin near Fourtown.<\/p>\n

Family said she enjoyed Razor rides at the cabin.<\/p>\n

In later years, Doris attended Zion Lutheran Church<\/a> in Warroad.<\/p>\n

Her family said she also volunteered at local blood drives.<\/p>\n

Survivors<\/h2>\n

Doris is survived by her three children.<\/p>\n

They are Verlene (Kermit) Jensen of Warroad.<\/p>\n

They are Milo (Tammy) Cleven of Warroad.<\/p>\n

They are Michael (Crystal) Cleven of Bemidji.<\/p>\n

She is also survived by nine grandchildren, her family said.<\/p>\n

She is also survived by 20 great-grandchildren, her family said.<\/p>\n

Survivors include her sister, Lynette Ashton of Cypress, California.<\/p>\n

Survivors also include in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends.<\/p>\n

Preceded in death<\/h2>\n

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Harlan.<\/p>\n

Her family said he died on September 12, 1994.<\/p>\n

She was also preceded in death by her parents.<\/p>\n

She was also preceded in death by her great-granddaughter, Alliya Jensen.<\/p>\n

Her family also listed several siblings and in-laws who died earlier.<\/p>\n

Service details<\/h2>\n

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.<\/p>\n

A prayer service is planned for 6:30 p.m.<\/p>\n

The events will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla.<\/p>\n

A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.<\/p>\n

The funeral will also be at the church.<\/p>\n

A reception will follow the service.<\/p>\n

Burial will be at Bethesda \u201cLog Church\u201d Cemetery in rural Grygla.<\/p>\n
