Wilkin County, Minnesota<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 One man is dead and another man is in jail after an early New Year\u2019s Day shooting near Wolverton.<\/p>\n

The Wilkin County Sheriff\u2019s Office says the death happened near Wolverton shortly after midnight. Investigators say there is no ongoing threat to the public.<\/p>\n

The call came in just after midnight<\/h2>\n

The sheriff\u2019s office says deputies received a call around 12:45 a.m. on New Year\u2019s Day. The call was in the 1700 block of Minnesota Highway 75 near Wolverton.<\/p>\n

The reporting party told dispatch that someone had been shot. Responding law enforcement found a man with an apparent gunshot wound.<\/p>\n

Paramedics arrived and tried to help. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n

Witnesses interviewed, suspect identified<\/h2>\n

Investigators say witnesses were interviewed at the scene. A suspect was identified during those interviews.<\/p>\n

The suspect was later arrested, according to the sheriff\u2019s office. The suspect was taken to the Wilkin County Detention Center.<\/p>\n

Formal charges are pending. The sheriff\u2019s office says that the decision will be based on the facts gathered so far.<\/p>\n

Suspect booked into jail<\/h2>\n

The sheriff\u2019s office says the victim will be identified later. That will happen after the autopsy and family notifications.<\/p>\n

Investigators say the suspect and victim knew each other. Officials say that is part of why they do not believe the public is at risk.<\/p>\n
