Roseau Parents Turn Petition Into Public Protest<\/h2>\n
Andrea Erickson organized the effort after learning about a September incident involving three children.<\/p>\n
Erickson, a mother of two, has lived in the Roseau area for about 20 years.<\/p>\n
She started a Change.org petition calling for stronger child protections<\/a>.<\/p>\n The petition had gathered nearly 800 signatures by the time of the courthouse protest, according to local reporting.<\/p>\n Protester Wonda Osborne said residents intend to keep showing up until their concerns receive attention.<\/p>\n Another protester, Donna Smith, said children’s safety matters even to residents without children of their own.<\/p>\n Protesters called for stronger enforcement, closer monitoring, and more resources for families.<\/p>\n The demonstration followed criminal charges against Nicholas James Gerulli Jr., 49, of Roseau.<\/p>\n According to court documents, Gerulli allegedly approached three children at a Roseau Burger King on September 20.<\/p>\n The children were ages 11, 10, and 10.<\/p>\n Investigators say Gerulli followed the children into the restaurant around 9 p.m.<\/p>\n A restaurant manager reported inappropriate sexual comments and gestures directed toward the children.<\/p>\n The manager told Gerulli to leave, according to the criminal complaint.<\/p>\n Investigators allege he later approached the children again near Center Street and Main Avenue.<\/p>\n The complaint states he made another inappropriate gesture and asked where they lived.<\/p>\n Gerulli faces felony harassment involving a victim under 18 and alleged sexual or aggressive intent.<\/p>\n He was released after posting a $500 bond, according to Valley News Live<\/a>.<\/p>\n His release became a major concern for residents who attended Monday’s demonstration.<\/p>\n Erickson said she believes officials should provide stronger oversight when defendants return to the community.<\/p>\n She also said she contacted county leaders but had not received responses to her earlier messages.<\/p>\n State court records cited by Valley News Live show Gerulli has previous harassment-related convictions.<\/p>\n Those include harassment restraining-order violations in 2018, 2020, and 2021.<\/p>\n Records also show a 2015 conviction for fifth-degree criminal sexual conduct.<\/p>\n Those previous convictions are separate from the current felony harassment charge.<\/p>\n The latest allegations have not been proven in court.
