Dassel Teen Shot During Duck Hunt on Powers Lake<\/h2>\n

DASSEL, Minn. (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>)<\/strong> \u2014 A 16-year-old from rural Dassel was injured Monday, October 19, during a duck hunt on Powers Lake.<\/p>\n

Investigators say a shotgun fell and discharged, striking the teenager in the leg.<\/p>\n

He was later flown to a hospital in Robbinsdale.<\/p>\n

Shotgun Discharges During Duck Hunt<\/h2>\n

The Meeker County Sheriff’s Office received a report of the shooting at 7:05 a.m.<\/p>\n

The call came from the 29000 block of County Road 14 in Forest City Township.<\/p>\n

Deputies learned that three 16-year-old boys were hunting ducks from a boat on Powers Lake.<\/p>\n

The group had just fired at a flock of ducks, according to the sheriff’s report.<\/p>\n

One hunter then dropped his shotgun.<\/p>\n

Investigators said the weapon discharged when it landed.<\/p>\n

The shot struck another hunter in the leg.<\/p>\n

The injured teenager was identified as Caleb Crowe of rural Dassel.<\/p>\n

Officials did not report injuries to the other two boys.<\/p>\n

Teen Hunters Provide Emergency First Aid<\/h2>\n

The two uninjured hunters called 911 and began helping Crowe.<\/p>\n

They used an improvised tourniquet on his injured leg while waiting for emergency responders.<\/p>\n

Mayo Ambulance took Crowe to Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield for initial treatment.<\/p>\n

He was then flown to North Memorial Health Hospital in Robbinsdale.<\/p>\n

Authorities described his injuries as believed to be non-life-threatening.<\/p>\n

Officials did not provide further details about his treatment or recovery.<\/p>\n

Multiple Emergency Agencies Respond<\/h2>\n

The response included Meeker County sheriff’s deputies and a county community paramedic.<\/p>\n

Minnesota Department of Natural Resources personnel, Litchfield Rescue, and Mayo Ambulance also went to the scene.<\/p>\n

The sheriff’s office said the incident remains under investigation.<\/p>\n

Minnesota DNR Stresses Firearm Safety<\/h2>\n

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources offers hunter education and firearms safety classes.<\/p>\n
