Pequot Lakes Man, 79, Killed in E-Bike, Semi Crash<\/h2>\n

PEQUOT LAKES, MN (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>)<\/strong> \u2013 A 79-year-old Pequot Lakes man died Tuesday afternoon, October 20, 2026, after the electric bicycle he was riding was struck by a semitrailer on Highway 371 in Crow Wing County.<\/p>\n

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the victim was identified as Loyal Keith Hoag, 79, of Pequot Lakes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The fatal collision occurred at approximately 2:07 p.m. near the intersection of southbound Highway 371 and County Road 29.<\/p>\n

E-Bike Crossed Highway Before Collision<\/h2>\n

According to the State Patrol’s preliminary crash information, a semitrailer was traveling southbound on Highway 371 and moving into the left lane.<\/p>\n

At the same time, Hoag was riding a Trek electric bicycle along the southbound shoulder.<\/p>\n

Investigators reported that the e-bike then traveled across all southbound lanes, where it was struck by the semi.<\/p>\n

Hoag suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n

Semi Driver Identified, Uninjured<\/h2>\n

The semitrailer driver was identified as Jonathan Nicholas Thompson, 36, of Deerwood, Minnesota<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

According to the State Patrol, Thompson was not injured in the collision.<\/p>\n

Authorities indicated that alcohol is not suspected to have contributed to the crash.<\/p>\n

Emergency Crews Respond to Highway 371<\/h2>\n

Emergency responders were dispatched to the crash scene near County Road 29 shortly after 2 p.m.<\/p>\n

In addition to the Minnesota State Patrol, responding agencies included local fire departments, ambulance personnel, and the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office.<\/p>\n

The crash resulted in the death of one person, with no injuries reported to the truck driver.<\/p>\n

Fatal Crash Remains Under Investigation<\/h2>\n

The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.<\/p>\n

Authorities have not explained why the electric bicycle crossed the southbound lanes of Highway 371.<\/p>\n

No additional contributing factors were identified in the information released.<\/p>\n
