{"id":57427,"date":"2026-10-05T12:12:32","date_gmt":"2026-10-05T17:12:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/?p=57427"},"modified":"2026-10-03T13:21:21","modified_gmt":"2026-10-03T18:21:21","slug":"oklee-father-charged-after-infant-suffers-7-fractures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/oklee-father-charged-after-infant-suffers-7-fractures\/","title":{"rendered":"Oklee Father Charged After Infant Suffers 7 Fractures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Oklee (<a href=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\">trfnews.i234.me<\/a>)<\/strong> \u2014 An Oklee father faces two felony charges after his six-week-old child was found with seven bone fractures.<\/p>\n<p>Keric Carpenter, 25, is charged in Red Lake County District Court.<\/p>\n<p>He faces felony malicious punishment of a child and felony neglect of a child.<\/p>\n<p>Carpenter also faces a gross misdemeanor charge of contributing to a child\u2019s need for protection or services.<\/p>\n<p>Each felony carries up to five years in prison and a possible $10,000 fine.<\/p>\n<h2>Infant Taken To Hospital<\/h2>\n<p>The investigation began February 25 after the infant was taken to Essentia Health in Fosston.<\/p>\n<p>The child\u2019s parents reported that the infant was not properly moving his right arm.<\/p>\n<p>A full-body X-ray revealed fractures involving the right arm, both legs, and a rib.<\/p>\n<p>The child was transferred to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo for further treatment.<\/p>\n<p>Law enforcement placed the infant on a protective hold.<\/p>\n<p>The child was later released into foster care, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n<h2>Doctors Document Seven Fractures<\/h2>\n<p>Medical records documented seven fractures involving the infant\u2019s arms, legs, and a rib.<\/p>\n<p>Some injuries showed signs of healing at different stages.<\/p>\n<p>A pediatric child abuse specialist reviewed the medical evidence.<\/p>\n<p>The doctor concluded the injuries were most consistent with nonaccidental trauma.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint says no medical or genetic condition was found that would explain the fractures.<\/p>\n<h2>Investigators Review Carpenter&#8217;s Phone<\/h2>\n<p>Carpenter and the child\u2019s mother told investigators they were the infant\u2019s primary caregivers.<\/p>\n<p>Both denied dropping the child or knowing how the injuries occurred.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint says Carpenter was briefly alone with the infant before unusually severe crying began.<\/p>\n<p>Later that evening, the parents noticed the child\u2019s right arm appeared limp.<\/p>\n<p>They did not seek medical treatment until the following day.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators also reviewed searches found on Carpenter\u2019s phone.<\/p>\n<p>Two days before the hospital visit, he allegedly searched how much weight could break bones.<\/p>\n<p>On February 25, he allegedly searched why a baby cries when an arm is moved.<\/p>\n<p>He also searched for causes of infant forearm fractures, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n<h2>Three Charges Filed<\/h2>\n<p>Prosecutors allege Carpenter inflicted or allowed repeated nonaccidental injuries.<\/p>\n<p>They also allege he failed to protect the child and obtain timely medical care.<\/p>\n<p>The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.<\/p>\n<p>Carpenter is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.<\/p>\n<p>Readers can review Minnesota criminal laws through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota Revisor of Statutes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Minnesota court information is available through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mncourts.gov\/Access-Case-Records.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota Judicial Branch<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m Adrian Cole reporting for <a href=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\">TRF News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Copyright 2026 TRF News.
