Oklee (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>)<\/strong> \u2014 An Oklee woman faces two felony charges after a six-week-old infant was found with multiple fractures.<\/p>\n

Kayla Gill, 23, is charged in Red Lake County District Court.<\/p>\n

She faces felony malicious punishment of a child and felony child neglect.<\/p>\n

Gill also faces a gross misdemeanor charge of contributing to a child\u2019s need for protection or services.<\/p>\n

The felony charges each carry up to five years in prison and a possible $10,000 fine.<\/p>\n

Infant Taken To Hospital<\/h2>\n

The investigation began February 25 after the infant was taken to Essentia Health in Fosston.<\/p>\n

The child\u2019s parents reported that the infant was not properly moving his right arm.<\/p>\n

A full-body X-ray revealed fractures to the child\u2019s arms, legs, and a rib.<\/p>\n

The infant was transferred to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo for further evaluation.<\/p>\n

Law enforcement placed the child on a protective hold.<\/p>\n

The child was later released into foster care, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

Medical Records Document Seven Fractures<\/h2>\n

Medical records documented seven separate bone fractures.<\/p>\n

The injuries involved both arms, both legs, and a rib.<\/p>\n

Doctors also reported that some fractures were in different stages of healing.<\/p>\n

A specialist in pediatric child abuse reviewed the medical records and imaging.<\/p>\n

The physician concluded the injuries were consistent with nonaccidental trauma.<\/p>\n

The complaint states no medical or genetic condition was identified that would explain the fractures.<\/p>\n

Parents Interviewed By Investigators<\/h2>\n

Gill and the child\u2019s father told investigators they were the infant\u2019s primary caregivers.<\/p>\n

Both denied dropping the child or knowing how the injuries occurred.<\/p>\n

The complaint says their accounts differed about events before the arm injury was discovered.<\/p>\n

Both reported that the infant cried unusually hard on February 24.<\/p>\n

Later that evening, they noticed the child\u2019s right arm appeared limp.<\/p>\n

The complaint says they waited until the following day to seek medical care.<\/p>\n

Three Charges Filed<\/h2>\n

Prosecutors allege Gill failed to protect the child from repeated traumatic injuries.<\/p>\n

They also allege she failed to obtain timely medical care after signs of injury appeared.<\/p>\n

The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.<\/p>\n

Gill is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.<\/p>\n
