Mentor (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>)<\/strong> \u2014 A Bagley man faces seven felony charges following a shooting near Mentor.<\/p>\n

Leslie Manford Anderson, 79, is charged in Polk County District Court.<\/p>\n

The charges include attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and first-degree burglary.<\/p>\n

The case stems from an incident early September 20 near Mentor in Polk County.<\/p>\n

Man Found With Gunshot Wound<\/h2>\n

Deputies were called to a rural property around 2:48 a.m.<\/p>\n

The complaint says a man identified as S.A.Q. had been shot in the head.<\/p>\n

Deputies reported finding the man covered in blood near a metal shop.<\/p>\n

He was taken from the scene for emergency medical treatment.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors allege Anderson shot the man with a handgun.<\/p>\n

They also allege Anderson fired toward two women who were at the property.<\/p>\n

Witnesses Describe Confrontation<\/h2>\n

According to the complaint, a trail camera had captured someone walking on the property.<\/p>\n

The property owner went to the farm after learning someone may have been trespassing.<\/p>\n

Witnesses said a shop building appeared to have been broken into.<\/p>\n

They alleged Anderson came from the building with a handgun.<\/p>\n

A confrontation followed near the shop.<\/p>\n

The complaint alleges Anderson shot S.A.Q. during that confrontation.<\/p>\n

Witnesses also reported additional shots as they moved away and called 911.<\/p>\n

Anderson Gives Different Account<\/h2>\n

Deputies later located Anderson at a residence near Bagley.<\/p>\n

Anderson allegedly admitted entering buildings at the farm without permission.<\/p>\n

He told investigators he believed property belonging to him was stored there.<\/p>\n

Anderson claimed S.A.Q. had a small pistol and pointed it at him.<\/p>\n

He said he grabbed for the weapon because he feared being shot.<\/p>\n

Anderson claimed the gun fired several times as the two men fell to the ground.<\/p>\n

He also told investigators he later burned the clothing he had worn that night.<\/p>\n

Seven Felony Charges Filed<\/h2>\n

Anderson faces one count of attempted second-degree murder.<\/p>\n

He also faces one first-degree assault charge and three second-degree assault charges.<\/p>\n

Two additional counts accuse Anderson of first-degree burglary.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors also gave notice that they may seek an enhanced sentence involving alleged firearm use.<\/p>\n

The charges are allegations. Anderson is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.<\/p>\n
