Homeowners Report Garage Break-In<\/h2>\n
A resident called 911 at about 1:42 a.m. to report a break-in.<\/p>\n
The incident happened at a home in Karlstad, according to the criminal complaint.<\/p>\n
A homeowner told authorities he found a man inside his detached garage.<\/p>\n
The man ran south after being confronted, court records state.<\/p>\n
The homeowner described him as wearing shorts, a shirt, and a dark baseball hat.<\/p>\n
Investigators found several battery-powered tools lying on the garage floor.<\/p>\n
The homeowner said those tools had previously been stored on a shelf.<\/p>\n
Authorities searched the area and soon located Cox nearby.<\/p>\n
Court records say Cox matched the description provided by the homeowner.<\/p>\n
The homeowner later identified Cox as the person seen leaving the garage.<\/p>\n
Cox Allegedly Admitted Entering Garage<\/h2>\n
Cox was taken to the Kittson County Jail after his arrest.<\/p>\n
Authorities advised him of his rights before conducting an interview.<\/p>\n
The complaint says Cox admitted entering the homeowners’ garage.<\/p>\n
However, he denied trying to steal anything from the building.<\/p>\n
Cox reportedly said he did not remember moving the tools.<\/p>\n
He also admitted running from the garage after being confronted.<\/p>\n
Investigators returned to the neighborhood during a later shift.<\/p>\n
They searched for a cellphone and shoe Cox had allegedly lost.<\/p>\n
Both items were found within the same block as the reported break-in.<\/p>\n
Two Felony Charges Filed<\/h2>\n
Cox is charged with third-degree burglary under Minnesota Statute 609.582<\/a>.<\/p>\n The charge carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.<\/p>\n It also carries a possible fine of up to $10,000.<\/p>\n The second count alleges attempted third-degree burglary.<\/p>\n That charge also references Minnesota’s attempt statute<\/a>.<\/p>\n The attempted burglary charge carries up to two-and-a-half years in prison.<\/p>\n A fine of up to $5,000 is also possible.<\/p>\n Criminal charges are allegations.
