Fargo Jail Drug Smuggling Case Brings 18-Month Term<\/h2>\n

Fargo, North Dakota (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>)<\/strong> \u2014 A South Dakota woman has been sentenced in a Cass County Jail drug-smuggling case.<\/p>\n

Daria Renville, of Sisseton, pleaded guilty September 28 to two felony charges.<\/p>\n

One charge involved conspiracy to deliver drugs inside a correctional facility.<\/p>\n

That offense is listed as a Class A felony.<\/p>\n

Renville also pleaded guilty to second-offense possession of a Schedule III narcotic drug.<\/p>\n

That offense is a Class C felony.<\/p>\n

Renville Ordered to Serve 18 Months<\/h2>\n

Cass County District Court Judge Scott Diamond imposed a 10-year corrections sentence.<\/p>\n

Renville was ordered to serve 18 months in state custody.<\/p>\n

The remaining prison time was suspended under the terms of her sentence.<\/p>\n

She will also serve two years of supervised probation after her release.<\/p>\n

Renville received credit for 231 days already spent in custody.<\/p>\n

The court also ordered her to pay $1,025 in fees.<\/p>\n

Investigation Began in 2024<\/h2>\n

Renville was arrested May 13 in South Dakota after authorities located her on an outstanding warrant.<\/p>\n

The warrant had been issued in October 2024.<\/p>\n

She was later transferred to the Cass County Jail in Fargo.<\/p>\n

The case followed a lengthy investigation into drugs entering the jail through inmate mail.<\/p>\n

Investigators began examining the issue in April 2024 after receiving information about drugs inside the facility.<\/p>\n

Authorities said Suboxone was the main controlled substance involved in the investigation.<\/p>\n

Investigators said drugs were hidden within the glued portions of mailing envelopes.<\/p>\n

The envelopes were allegedly opened with heat, filled with drugs and then resealed.<\/p>\n

The method made the drugs difficult for jail employees to detect.<\/p>\n

Earlier Conviction Connected to Investigation<\/h2>\n

The investigation also resulted in a separate case against Amar Kovacevic of Fargo.<\/p>\n

Kovacevic pleaded guilty in November 2024 to a drug-delivery conspiracy charge involving the jail.<\/p>\n

Renville will serve her sentence through the North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation<\/a>.<\/p>\n
