The charges include fourth-degree assault of a peace officer and attempted escape from custody.<\/p>\n

The incident happened September 4, 2026, according to a criminal complaint filed in Otter Tail County.<\/p>\n

Complaint Describes Attempt to Leave Cell Area<\/h2>\n

According to the complaint, a corrections officer entered Olson’s cell to collect a meal tray.<\/p>\n

Olson allegedly refused to hand the tray to the officer.<\/p>\n

The complaint says Olson then moved past the officer and ran toward the jail’s booking area.<\/p>\n

The corrections officer followed Olson and tried to restrain him.<\/p>\n

Authorities say Olson continued resisting as he moved toward an elevator area.<\/p>\n

He then turned and ran back toward the booking area, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

The officer continued trying to stop Olson during the incident.<\/p>\n

The complaint says the officer fell and struck a knee on the concrete floor.<\/p>\n

Other jail staff arrived as Olson allegedly reached toward a booking-area door.<\/p>\n

Staff then brought Olson to the ground and stopped the attempted escape.<\/p>\n

Officer Reported Knee Injury<\/h2>\n

Police investigated the incident the following day.<\/p>\n

The injured corrections officer was holding an ice pack against the knee, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

The officer reported knee pain following the struggle.<\/p>\n

Investigators also interviewed Olson after advising him of his rights.<\/p>\n

The complaint says Olson admitted grabbing the officer’s arms and moving past the officer.<\/p>\n

He allegedly told investigators he was trying to get away from the jail.<\/p>\n

The complaint also states Olson admitted he intended to escape.<\/p>\n

Two Felony Charges Filed<\/h2>\n

Olson is charged with fourth-degree assault of a peace officer causing demonstrable bodily harm.<\/p>\n

That felony carries up to three years in prison.<\/p>\n

It also carries a possible fine of up to $6,000.<\/p>\n

The second charge is attempted escape from custody.<\/p>\n

That felony carries up to two-and-a-half years in prison.<\/p>\n

It also carries a possible fine of up to $5,000.<\/p>\n
