Battle Lake Standoff Ends With Man Fatally Shot<\/h2>\n

Battle Lake (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>)<\/strong> \u2014 A man was fatally shot by law enforcement following a standoff near Battle Lake.<\/p>\n

The incident happened Friday evening at a rural home in Otter Tail County.<\/p>\n

Authorities say the man pointed a firearm toward officers before an officer opened fire.<\/p>\n

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is now investigating the shooting.<\/p>\n

Disturbance Reported at Rural Home<\/h2>\n

The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office responded around 5:47 p.m. Friday.<\/p>\n

The call came from the 30000 block of Twin Lakes Road near Battle Lake.<\/p>\n

A caller had stopped at the home to check on a relative.<\/p>\n

The caller found the home’s door barricaded, according to the sheriff’s office.<\/p>\n

A man later came to the door carrying a shotgun.<\/p>\n

Authorities say the man pointed the shotgun at the caller.<\/p>\n

He allegedly told the caller they were trespassing.<\/p>\n

The man then struck the caller with the shotgun’s butt, authorities said.<\/p>\n

He allegedly forced the caller into a vehicle before returning inside the home.<\/p>\n

The man then barricaded the doors.<\/p>\n

SWAT Teams Respond to Standoff<\/h2>\n

The Otter Tail County SWAT Team responded to the property.<\/p>\n

Officers attempted to communicate and negotiate with the man.<\/p>\n

During the standoff, authorities say the man fired at an armored SWAT vehicle.<\/p>\n

Additional help was requested from Douglas County SWAT and Red River Valley SWAT.<\/p>\n

The standoff continued as law enforcement worked to resolve the situation.<\/p>\n

Man Fatally Shot by Officer<\/h2>\n

Authorities say the man eventually came outside the residence.<\/p>\n

Preliminary information indicates he then pointed a firearm toward law enforcement.<\/p>\n

An officer fired a weapon and struck the man.<\/p>\n

Officers and medical personnel immediately provided emergency aid.<\/p>\n

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n

No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.<\/p>\n

The man’s name has not been released.<\/p>\n

Authorities said notification of family members must happen before his identity is made public.<\/p>\n

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension<\/a> is leading the shooting investigation.<\/p>\n
