Mentor Man Shot Protecting Family, Relatives Say<\/h2>\n

Mentor (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>)<\/strong> \u2014 Family members have identified the victim of a Mentor shooting as Shawn Qualley.<\/p>\n

Relatives say Qualley was shot while trying to protect his family from an intruder.<\/p>\n

The shooting happened early September 20 at a home in Mentor.<\/p>\n

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded around 2:48 a.m.<\/p>\n

The call came from a home at 32300 110th Avenue Southeast.<\/p>\n

Authorities reported that a man had suffered a gunshot injury.<\/p>\n

Family Says Qualley Faces Long Recovery<\/h2>\n

Family members identified the injured man as Shawn Qualley through an online fundraiser.<\/p>\n

They said Qualley was shot in the head during the incident.<\/p>\n

According to the family, he suffered a traumatic brain injury.<\/p>\n

They said Qualley now faces a long recovery process.<\/p>\n

His expected needs include specialized medical care and travel costs.<\/p>\n

The family also expects expenses for meals and insurance coverage gaps.<\/p>\n

Qualley was taken by ambulance to Grand Forks following the shooting.<\/p>\n

He received treatment at Altru Hospital<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Family members said his recovery may require additional specialized care in Grand Forks.<\/p>\n

79-Year-Old Man Arrested<\/h2>\n

Deputies arrested 79-year-old Leslie Manford Anderson following the shooting.<\/p>\n

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said deputies took Anderson into custody without incident.<\/p>\n

He was transported to the Northwest Regional Corrections Center in Crookston.<\/p>\n

Authorities have not released additional details about what led to the shooting.<\/p>\n

The sheriff’s statement also did not detail the relationship between Anderson and Qualley.<\/p>\n
