Grand Forks Man Charged After Pedestrians Hit<\/h2>\n

Grand Forks<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 A Grand Forks man faces three attempted murder charges after a Wednesday evening crash.<\/p>\n

Police identified the suspect as Ian Matthew Schneeweis.<\/p>\n

Officers were called around 5:40 p.m. on September 23, 2026.<\/p>\n

The incident happened in the 1600 block of South 16th Street.<\/p>\n

Police received reports of a reckless driver who had struck a pedestrian.<\/p>\n

The vehicle then hit a tree, leaving it disabled, according to police.<\/p>\n

Police Say Several People Were Involved<\/h2>\n

Investigators said Schneeweis was driving a 2007 Honda Accord.<\/p>\n

Police said the car struck two pedestrians during the incident.<\/p>\n

The vehicle also struck another motor vehicle.<\/p>\n

Investigators said the Honda then hit the entrance of an apartment building.<\/p>\n

A third pedestrian was also involved but was not injured.<\/p>\n

Police said that person took cover behind the tree that the vehicle later struck.<\/p>\n

The two injured pedestrians were taken to Altru Hospital.<\/p>\n

Police said their injuries were not considered life-threatening.<\/p>\n

Driver Arrested After Leaving Scene<\/h2>\n

Police said the driver ran from the crash scene.<\/p>\n

Officers found Schneeweis a few blocks away and placed him under arrest.<\/p>\n

He was also taken to Altru Hospital for medical treatment.<\/p>\n

After being medically cleared, Schneeweis was booked into the Grand Forks Correctional Center.<\/p>\n

He faces three counts of attempted murder and additional criminal charges.<\/p>\n

Investigation Continues<\/h2>\n

Police have not released more details about what led to the incident.<\/p>\n

Authorities have also not provided a full list of the additional charges.<\/p>\n

The investigation remains active.<\/p>\n
