The Moorhead man was sentenced in Otter Tail County District Court.<\/p>\n
The case stems from an April 5, 2025, incident near Erhard.<\/p>\n
A second-degree assault charge and a domestic assault charge were dismissed under a plea agreement.<\/p>\n
Woman Sought Help at Rural Home<\/h2>\n
Court records say authorities received a call at about 9:31 p.m.<\/p>\n
A resident reported that a distraught woman had arrived at her rural Erhard home.<\/p>\n
The woman said Borseth, her boyfriend, had assaulted her.<\/p>\n
Records say the couple lived in Moorhead.<\/p>\n
They were staying at a lake property owned by Borseth’s family.<\/p>\n
The woman said they had been dating for about 11 months.<\/p>\n
She told investigators that Borseth became upset and returned carrying a stick.<\/p>\n
She alleged Borseth questioned her and struck her legs when he disliked her answers.<\/p>\n
Threat Alleged During Drive<\/h2>\n
The woman said Borseth wanted to leave because neighbors might hear her.<\/p>\n
She entered the passenger seat while Borseth drove toward Moorhead, records say.<\/p>\n
The woman alleged Borseth struck her side and head while driving.<\/p>\n
She also alleged he turned onto a gravel road and threatened to kill her.<\/p>\n
The woman said she jumped from the moving vehicle.<\/p>\n
She estimated the vehicle was traveling between 10 and 15 mph.<\/p>\n
She then ran to a nearby residence for help.<\/p>\n
Borseth Arrested North of Fergus Falls<\/h2>\n
Authorities later located Borseth’s vehicle north of Fergus Falls.<\/p>\n
Court records say investigators learned his driver’s license was revoked.<\/p>\n
Borseth was arrested after the traffic stop.<\/p>\n
A search found a stick and a purse near the passenger area.<\/p>\n
The woman’s identification was inside the purse, according to court documents.<\/p>\n
Records also describe drug paraphernalia and small bags containing suspected methamphetamine residue.<\/p>\n
The substance reportedly tested positive for methamphetamine during a field test.<\/p>\n
Five Years of Supervised Probation<\/h2>\n
On August 3, Borseth received a one-year prison sentence that was stayed for five years.<\/p>\n
He was ordered to serve 60 days in the Otter Tail County Jail.<\/p>\n
Borseth received credit for 60 days already served.<\/p>\n
He was also ordered to pay a $50 fine and $160 in court fees.<\/p>\n
Borseth must avoid alcohol and illegal drugs while under supervision.<\/p>\n
He must also complete a comprehensive assessment and a domestic abuse evaluation.<\/p>\n
He was placed on supervised probation for five years.<\/p>\n
Borseth entered an Alford plea on March 26.<\/p>\n
An Alford plea allows a defendant to maintain innocence while accepting that prosecutors have enough evidence for conviction.<\/p>\n
