Devils Lake Volunteer Faces 9 Felonies in Abuse Case<\/h2>\n

Devils Lake (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>)<\/strong> \u2014 A daycare volunteer faces nine felony charges involving several young children.<\/p>\n

Braxton Strande is charged in Ramsey County District Court, according to court documents filed Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Court records list Strande’s birth year as 2009.<\/p>\n

The charges include continuous sexual abuse of a child and gross sexual imposition.<\/p>\n

Other charges include child abuse and witness tampering.<\/p>\n

Investigation Began in May<\/h2>\n

The Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office began investigating Little Goslings Daycare in May.<\/p>\n

Most of the alleged conduct happened at the Devils Lake daycare, according to prosecutors.<\/p>\n

Other counts describe alleged incidents involving additional children during a separate period.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors allege inappropriate sexual contact involving several young children.<\/p>\n

One charge also alleges physical injury to a child.<\/p>\n

Another charge alleges Strande threatened a child to prevent a report to adults.<\/p>\n

The allegations have not been proven in court.<\/p>\n

Strande is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.<\/p>\n

Daycare Says Strande Was a Volunteer<\/h2>\n

A daycare director said Strande was never employed by Little Goslings Daycare.<\/p>\n

She said he was classified as a volunteer under North Dakota licensing rules.<\/p>\n

The director said Strande has a family member who works at the facility.<\/p>\n

She said that connection explained why he was present at the daycare.<\/p>\n

The director also said Strande completed the required background check.<\/p>\n

She said staff supervised him while he was at the facility.<\/p>\n

According to the director, Strande was never responsible for children’s care.<\/p>\n

She also said he was never intentionally left alone with children.<\/p>\n

The daycare has cooperated with investigators and provided evidence, the director said.<\/p>\n

Court Case Moving Forward<\/h2>\n

Ramsey County State’s Attorney Daniel Howell said the court has signed an order in the case.<\/p>\n

Howell said prosecutors are moving forward with the charges.<\/p>\n

The case is expected to proceed by summons.<\/p>\n

A summons date had not yet been announced.<\/p>\n
