Argument Reported At Residence<\/h2>\n
According to the complaint, officers were called to the residence around 3:04 p.m.<\/p>\n
The caller reported that the suspect had left in a white Dodge Town and Country.<\/p>\n
Authorities soon located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.<\/p>\n
Chaboyea was arrested during that stop and taken to the Pennington County Jail.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, investigators spoke with Chaboyea’s girlfriend at the residence.<\/p>\n
Her identity is listed only as “X” in the court complaint.<\/p>\n
She said the couple had argued earlier while traveling toward Grand Forks.<\/p>\n
The woman said they later returned to Thief River Falls.<\/p>\n
She alleged Chaboyea repeatedly contacted her after she said she wanted to end their relationship.<\/p>\n
911 Call Allegedly Interrupted<\/h2>\n
The woman said Chaboyea later came to the residence despite being asked not to come inside.<\/p>\n
They continued arguing near the doorway, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n
She told Chaboyea to leave and said she would call police if he refused.<\/p>\n
The woman said she entered 911 into her phone but had not yet pressed call.<\/p>\n
She then showed Chaboyea the phone, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n
Prosecutors allege Chaboyea grabbed her right wrist and took the phone from her hand.<\/p>\n
The woman said she chased him toward his vehicle and recovered the phone.<\/p>\n
She then called 911.<\/p>\n
Witness Describes Confrontation<\/h2>\n
Jennifer Farrell told investigators she heard the couple arguing from downstairs.<\/p>\n
Farrell said the woman repeatedly tried to close the door while Chaboyea reopened it.<\/p>\n
She also heard the woman warn that she would call 911.<\/p>\n
Farrell then heard the woman’s body hit the screen door, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n
She later saw Chaboyea running toward his vehicle with the woman following him.<\/p>\n
Investigators photographed the woman’s arm after the incident.<\/p>\n
The complaint says no obvious marks were visible on her arm.<\/p>\n
However, investigators noted that her middle fingernail had been torn off.<\/p>\n
Two Charges Filed<\/h2>\n
The emergency-call charge is a gross misdemeanor under Minnesota Statute 609.78<\/a>.<\/p>\n It carries up to 364 days in jail and a possible $3,000 fine.<\/p>\n The domestic assault charge falls under Minnesota Statute 609.2242<\/a>.<\/p>\n That charge carries up to 90 days in jail and a possible $1,000 fine.<\/p>\n The complaint also says Chaboyea is on supervised probation in a 2025 domestic assault case.<\/p>\n That case received a stay of adjudication, according to the filing.<\/p>\n The current case is filed as 57-CR-26-651 in Minnesota’s Ninth Judicial District.<\/p>\n Public records are available through Minnesota Court Records Online<\/a>.<\/p>\n The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.<\/p>\n Chaboyea is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.<\/p>\n I’m Adrian Cole reporting for TRF News<\/a>.<\/p>\n
