Driving Complaint Leads To Investigation<\/h2>\n
According to the complaint, police received a report about a blue Chevrolet Impala.<\/p>\n
The caller said the vehicle was driving across the roadway and onto the shoulder.<\/p>\n
An officer later located the vehicle along Highway 371 in Cass County.<\/p>\n
The Impala had pulled onto the shoulder and displayed a paper license plate.<\/p>\n
The officer reported seeing a man slumped over in the driver’s seat.<\/p>\n
The driver was later identified as Dale Roger Dufner.<\/p>\n
The complaint says Dufner appeared startled when the officer knocked on the window.<\/p>\n
Investigators say Dufner then reached toward his waistband and started the vehicle.<\/p>\n
The officer ordered Dufner to shut off the vehicle and keep his hands visible.<\/p>\n
Dufner eventually exited the vehicle and was temporarily handcuffed, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n
Suspected Fentanyl Found In Vehicle<\/h2>\n
The complaint says Dufner then mentioned a narcotic inside the vehicle.<\/p>\n
He allegedly identified the substance as fentanyl and described a small white container.<\/p>\n
Police searched the vehicle and reported finding a matching container.<\/p>\n
Investigators say the substance inside tested positive for the presence of fentanyl.<\/p>\n
The container and suspected fentanyl together weighed 4.2 grams, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n
Officers also reported finding several glass smoking pipes inside the vehicle.<\/p>\n
Burned tin foil was also found, according to the court filing.<\/p>\n
Investigators described those items as consistent with controlled substance use.<\/p>\n
Prior Drug Convictions Listed<\/h2>\n
The complaint lists two prior fifth-degree controlled substance convictions involving Dufner.<\/p>\n
Both convictions were sentenced in Cass County during August 2020.<\/p>\n
One conviction was a gross misdemeanor.<\/p>\n
The other was a felony controlled substance conviction.<\/p>\n
The complaint also lists a pending Crow Wing County case.<\/p>\n
That separate case includes alleged fifth-degree drug possession and DWI charges.<\/p>\n
Those pending charges have not been resolved.<\/p>\n
Felony Charge Filed In Cass County<\/h2>\n
