Renteria, of Detroit Lakes, received a stayed prison sentence during a July 9 hearing.<\/p>\n
Two felony threats of violence counts were dismissed under a plea agreement.<\/p>\n
Judge Orders Jail and Probation<\/h2>\n
Becker County District Judge Gretchen Thilmony imposed a one-year prison sentence at St. Cloud.<\/p>\n
The prison term was stayed for five years.<\/p>\n
That means Renteria will not serve it unless the stay is later revoked.<\/p>\n
Renteria was ordered to serve 90 days in jail.<\/p>\n
He received credit for 35 days already served.<\/p>\n
The court also fined him $1,000 and ordered $160 in court fees.<\/p>\n
Renteria was placed on supervised probation for five years.<\/p>\n
Information about Becker County District Court<\/a> is available through the Minnesota Judicial Branch.<\/p>\n The case began after a disturbance at Renteria’s Detroit Lakes apartment on November 27, 2025.<\/p>\n Court records say law enforcement was sent to the apartment around 3:30 a.m.<\/p>\n Dispatch reported that Renteria was intoxicated and acting in an erratic and threatening way.<\/p>\n There were also concerns about the safety of children inside the apartment.<\/p>\n Court records said Renteria threatened to release his German Shepherd when officers arrived.<\/p>\n Records also described threats directed toward one officer and that officer’s family.<\/p>\n Those allegations were part of the original case filed in Becker County District Court.<\/p>\n The two threats of violence charges were later dismissed through the plea agreement.<\/p>\n Renteria was sentenced on the remaining felony domestic assault case.<\/p>\n The court placed several conditions on Renteria during his probation period.<\/p>\n He may not drink alcohol or use drugs.<\/p>\n He must complete a mental health evaluation.<\/p>\n He must also complete a domestic abuse batterer’s intervention program.<\/p>\n The court ordered a comprehensive assessment and required Renteria to follow its recommendations.<\/p>\n Those recommendations may include treatment and aftercare.<\/p>\n Failure to follow probation conditions could lead to further court action.<\/p>\n The stayed prison sentence could also be imposed if probation is revoked.<\/p>\n Minnesota’s domestic assault law<\/a> is available through the Minnesota Revisor of Statutes.<\/p>\n People facing domestic violence can also seek help from the National Domestic Violence Hotline<\/a>.<\/p>\n The hotline offers confidential support and safety planning resources.<\/p>\nCase Began With Detroit Lakes Disturbance<\/h2>\n
