{"id":51132,"date":"2026-09-14T11:19:28","date_gmt":"2026-09-14T16:19:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/?p=51132"},"modified":"2026-09-11T04:37:35","modified_gmt":"2026-09-11T09:37:35","slug":"oklee-couple-charged-after-infant-suffers-7-fractures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/oklee-couple-charged-after-infant-suffers-7-fractures\/","title":{"rendered":"Oklee Couple Charged After Infant Suffers 7 Fractures"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Oklee Couple Charged After Infant Suffers 7 Fractures<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Oklee (<a href=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\">trfnews.i234.me<\/a>)<\/strong> \u2014 An Oklee couple faces charges after their 6-week-old infant suffered seven bone fractures.<\/p>\n<p>Keric William Ronald Carpenter, 25, and Kayla Marie Gill, 23, were charged in Red Lake County District Court.<\/p>\n<p>The complaints were filed Aug. 25.<\/p>\n<p>Both defendants were summoned to appear in court.<\/p>\n<p>Each faces two felony charges and one gross misdemeanor charge.<\/p>\n<h2>Seven Fractures Found<\/h2>\n<p>The infant suffered fractures involving both arms, both legs, and a rib, according to the complaints.<\/p>\n<p>A purple mark was also found on the child&#8217;s left forearm.<\/p>\n<p>Doctors later found fractures in different stages of healing.<\/p>\n<p>Court records say the child&#8217;s bone structure and mineralization appeared normal.<\/p>\n<p>No medical or genetic condition was found that would explain the fractures.<\/p>\n<p>The infant was placed in foster care after receiving medical treatment in February.<\/p>\n<h2>Hospital Visit Started Investigation<\/h2>\n<p>The investigation began after Carpenter and Gill brought the infant to Essentia Health in Fosston on Feb. 25.<\/p>\n<p>They reported that the child was not moving his right arm normally.<\/p>\n<p>A full-body X-ray revealed several fractures, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n<p>The infant was then transferred to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo.<\/p>\n<p>A child abuse specialist later reviewed the injuries.<\/p>\n<p>The doctor concluded the infant could not have caused the injuries himself.<\/p>\n<p>The injuries were most consistent with nonaccidental trauma, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n<p>The doctor also believed the injuries happened on more than one occasion.<\/p>\n<h2>Parents Questioned Separately<\/h2>\n<p>Authorities interviewed Carpenter and Gill separately.<\/p>\n<p>Both said they cared for the infant and denied knowing how the injuries occurred.<\/p>\n<p>They also denied dropping the child.<\/p>\n<p>Both described unusually severe crying on Feb. 24.<\/p>\n<p>They later noticed the infant&#8217;s right arm appeared limp and had limited movement.<\/p>\n<p>Another woman reportedly noticed the arm problem and a purple mark.<\/p>\n<p>She advised the parents to seek medical care if the condition did not improve.<\/p>\n<p>The parents waited until the following day to take the infant to the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators also reviewed Carpenter&#8217;s cellphone search history, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n<p>The searches included questions about bone fractures and infant arm injuries.<\/p>\n<h2>Three Charges Filed Against Each Parent<\/h2>\n<p>Carpenter and Gill each face felony malicious punishment of a child under age four.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/cite\/609.377\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota Statute 609.377<\/a> covers malicious punishment of a child.<\/p>\n<p>They also face felony child neglect resulting in substantial harm.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/cite\/609.378\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota Statute 609.378<\/a> covers child neglect and endangerment.<\/p>\n<p>Each also faces a gross misdemeanor involving a child&#8217;s need for protection or services.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/cite\/260C.425\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota Statute 260C.425<\/a> covers that offense.<\/p>\n<p>The charges are allegations and do not establish guilt.<\/p>\n<p>Carpenter and Gill are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.<\/p>\n<p>More court information is available through <a href=\"https:\/\/mncourts.gov\/find-courts\/red-lake\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Red Lake County District Court<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m Adrian Cole reporting for <a href=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\">TRF News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Copyright 2026 TRF News.
