The complaint says the shooting happened Dec. 20 at a home on West Ash Avenue.<\/p>\n

Investigators say Campbell and three others went to the home before sunrise.<\/p>\n

Witnesses said two suspects forced their way inside.<\/p>\n

They were armed and demanded cash and valuables, the complaint states.<\/p>\n

During questioning, Campbell said he fired his weapon, the complaint says.<\/p>\n

He told investigators he aimed at May\u2019s legs.<\/p>\n

He said he wanted to stop May from chasing them.<\/p>\n

Campbell said he was heavily intoxicated, according to the filing.<\/p>\n

He said May was seated when he fired.<\/p>\n

When asked, Campbell said he might have fired multiple times.<\/p>\n

Witness statements detail violence<\/h2>\n

A teenage witness said she recognized Campbell, even with a mask.<\/p>\n

She said she recognized him by his eyes, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

The witness said she was struck with a gun during the incident.<\/p>\n

A responding deputy noted visible facial injuries, the complaint states.<\/p>\n

Witnesses said the suspects demanded specific vaping products.<\/p>\n

The complaint says May was forced to place purple sneakers into a bag.<\/p>\n

Traffic stop and weapons recovered<\/h2>\n

After the shooting, the suspects fled in a dark SUV, the complaint says.<\/p>\n

A deputy spotted the SUV on Highway 10 near Perham, court documents state.<\/p>\n

All four people inside were detained.<\/p>\n

Campbell was in the front passenger seat, according to the filing.<\/p>\n

Investigators later searched and recovered two handguns, the complaint says.<\/p>\n

The filing says the guns were tossed into a mailbox after the escape.<\/p>\n

The complaint says scene evidence matched the ammunition tied to the guns.<\/p>\n

Possible motive and court date<\/h2>\n

Court documents describe a debt dispute involving someone called \u201cGage.\u201d<\/p>\n

Investigators say the group traveled from Hawley to Frazee to collect money.<\/p>\n

The complaint also says the group planned to steal vaping cartridges.<\/p>\n

A medical examiner ruled May died from multiple gunshot wounds.<\/p>\n

The death was ruled a homicide, the complaint states.<\/p>\n

Campbell and a 16-year-old male remain jailed, court records say.<\/p>\n

Campbell is scheduled to appear Dec. 23, 2025, at 11 a.m.<\/p>\n
