{"id":49570,"date":"2026-09-12T14:48:55","date_gmt":"2026-09-12T19:48:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/?p=49570"},"modified":"2026-09-07T13:32:28","modified_gmt":"2026-09-07T18:32:28","slug":"moorhead-keplin-charged-in-underage-beer-sale","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/moorhead-keplin-charged-in-underage-beer-sale\/","title":{"rendered":"Moorhead: Keplin Charged in Underage Beer Sale"},"content":{"rendered":"<article>\n<h2>Moorhead: Keplin Charged in Underage Beer Sale<\/h2>\n<p><strong>MOORHEAD, Minn.<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 Taylor Sonny James Keplin faces a gross misdemeanor charge following an alcohol compliance check.<\/p>\n<p>Keplin, 32, is charged in Clay County District Court file 14-CR-26-2563.<\/p>\n<p>The alleged sale happened on May 6, 2026, at Mick&#8217;s Office in Moorhead.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors allege Keplin served alcohol to two adult buyers who were under age 21.<\/p>\n<h2>Compliance Check at Moorhead Bar<\/h2>\n<p>The complaint says Moorhead police conducted alcohol compliance checks at licensed businesses in Clay County.<\/p>\n<p>Two adult buyers under age 21 assisted with the operation.<\/p>\n<p>The buyers entered <a href=\"https:\/\/order.toasttab.com\/online\/micks-office-10-8th-st-s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mick&#8217;s Office<\/a> at 10 8th Street South.<\/p>\n<p>They sat at the bar and ordered two beers, according to prosecutors.<\/p>\n<p>One buyer ordered a Bud Light.<\/p>\n<p>The other buyer ordered a Coors Light.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint identifies Keplin as the bartender who served the drinks.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors allege Keplin poured both beers and gave them to the buyers.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint says Keplin did not request identification from either buyer.<\/p>\n<p>It also alleges he did not otherwise verify their ages.<\/p>\n<p>The buyers then paid for the drinks using money provided by police.<\/p>\n<h2>Gross Misdemeanor Charge Filed<\/h2>\n<p>Keplin is charged under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/cite\/340A.503\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota Statute 340A.503<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The law prohibits selling, bartering, furnishing, or giving alcoholic beverages to anyone under 21.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint also cites <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/cite\/340A.702\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota Statute 340A.702<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That law classifies the cited violation as a gross misdemeanor.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint lists a maximum penalty of 364 days in jail.<\/p>\n<p>A fine of up to $3,000 is also possible.<\/p>\n<p>Those are maximum penalties and do not represent a sentence against Keplin.<\/p>\n<h2>Minnesota Law Addresses Proof of Age<\/h2>\n<p>Minnesota law lists approved forms of identification for proving a person&#8217;s age.<\/p>\n<p>The law also provides a defense involving reasonable, good-faith reliance on authorized identification.<\/p>\n<p>However, the complaint alleges Keplin did not ask the buyers for identification.<\/p>\n<p>Whether prosecutors can prove the charge will be decided through the court process.<\/p>\n<h2>Charge Remains an Allegation<\/h2>\n<p>The criminal complaint contains an allegation that has not been proven in court.<\/p>\n<p>Keplin is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.<\/p>\n<p>The case was filed by summons rather than an order of detention.<\/p>\n<p>Public case information is available through the <a href=\"https:\/\/mncourts.gov\/access-case-records\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota Judicial Branch<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m Adrian Cole reporting for <a href=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TRF News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Copyright 2026 TRF News.
