Barnes County (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run on Interstate 94 west of Valley City, officials said.<\/p>\n

The North Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating.<\/p>\n

Calls began Saturday<\/h2>\n

Troopers said they began getting calls on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Callers reported a man walking along I-94.<\/p>\n

Troopers went to make contact, officials said.<\/p>\n

They said the man declined further assistance.<\/p>\n

Body found Sunday near Mile Marker 282<\/h2>\n

On Sunday at about 2:30 p.m., a passerby called 911.<\/p>\n

The caller reported a body in the ditch.<\/p>\n

Officials stated that it was located near Mile Marker 282.<\/p>\n

That location is about eight miles west of Valley City.<\/p>\n

Troopers and the Barnes County Sheriff\u2019s Office<\/a> responded.<\/p>\n

They located the deceased in the same area.<\/p>\n

Evidence points to a hit-and-run<\/h2>\n

Investigators found pieces of a vehicle at the scene, officials said.<\/p>\n

They stated that the pieces were consistent with a hit-and-run incident.<\/p>\n

A large portion of a vehicle\u2019s bug deflector was found at the scene.<\/p>\n

Officials said it was damaged and left behind.<\/p>\n

Victim and vehicle not yet identified<\/h2>\n

The pedestrian\u2019s identity has not been released.<\/p>\n

Officials did not release the person\u2019s age or hometown.<\/p>\n

The vehicle involved has not been identified or located.<\/p>\n

Troopers said the crash remains under investigation.<\/p>\n

What investigators want the public to watch for<\/h2>\n

Troopers asked the public to watch for a vehicle with fresh damage.<\/p>\n

Officials said the vehicle likely was in the area late Saturday night.<\/p>\n

It may have been there early Sunday morning.<\/p>\n
