Baudette: Jasperson Faces $8,750 Check Theft Charge<\/h2>\n

BAUDETTE, Minn.<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 Kyle Allen Jasperson faces a felony theft-by-check charge in Lake of the Woods County.<\/p>\n

The case is filed as 39-CR-26-133 in Minnesota’s Ninth Judicial District.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors allege Jasperson used an $8,750 check to pay for work on a pickup.<\/p>\n

The complaint says the check was later returned for insufficient funds.<\/p>\n

The alleged offense occurred on May 26, 2026.<\/p>\n

Check Written for Transmission Work<\/h2>\n

The complaint says Darin Dahl contacted law enforcement about the unpaid check on July 23.<\/p>\n

Dahl represented Woody’s Service Inc. in Baudette, according to the court filing.<\/p>\n

He told investigators the check covered work on Jasperson’s 2006 Ford pickup.<\/p>\n

The check was written for $8,750, prosecutors allege.<\/p>\n

The complaint says the check was post-dated for June 26, 2026.<\/p>\n

However, the business first attempted to deposit it on June 1.<\/p>\n

That attempt was returned for insufficient funds, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

The business tried depositing the check again on July 2.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors allege the second attempt was also returned for insufficient funds.<\/p>\n

No law enforcement officer names are included in this report.<\/p>\n

Certified Payment Demand Sent<\/h2>\n

The complaint says Dahl mailed a certified demand for payment on July 7.<\/p>\n

Jasperson reportedly signed for the letter on July 16.<\/p>\n

Investigators also reviewed text messages between Dahl and Jasperson.<\/p>\n

One June message allegedly discussed money expected from a 401(k) account.<\/p>\n

Jasperson allegedly said the deposit was smaller than expected because some money was not vested.<\/p>\n

He also apologized for the situation, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors say no payment had been made when the complaint was prepared.<\/p>\n

Felony Theft Charge Filed<\/h2>\n

Jasperson is charged under Minnesota Statute 609.52<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The statute covers theft involving certain false representations, including checks.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors must prove the required intent and other elements beyond a reasonable doubt.<\/p>\n

The complaint classifies the alleged offense as a felony.<\/p>\n

It lists a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.<\/p>\n

A fine of up to $20,000 is also possible.<\/p>\n

Those are maximum penalties and do not represent a sentence against Jasperson.<\/p>\n
