Naytahwaush: Bellanger Faces Felony Domestic Assault<\/h2>\n

NAYTAHWAUSH, Minn.<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 Joshua Dean Bellanger faces a felony domestic assault charge in Mahnomen County.<\/p>\n

Bellanger, 20, is charged in District Court file 44-CR-26-519.<\/p>\n

The complaint alleges the assault happened on June 15, 2026, at a Naytahwaush residence.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors filed the case by summons.<\/p>\n

Woman Reports Being Pushed<\/h2>\n

Law enforcement responded to a disturbance the following day, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

The woman involved had already left the residence with a family member.<\/p>\n

Investigators met with her at another location.<\/p>\n

The complaint says she was crying and appeared upset while speaking with police.<\/p>\n

She told investigators that she and Bellanger had been drinking before an argument began.<\/p>\n

The woman allegedly saw a message from another woman on Bellanger’s phone.<\/p>\n

She then told Bellanger she wanted to leave the residence.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors allege Bellanger pushed her to the ground.<\/p>\n

The complaint says she repeatedly tried to leave but was pushed down again.<\/p>\n

She also alleged Bellanger prevented her from leaving until another person arrived.<\/p>\n

A family member later arrived to pick her up.<\/p>\n

That person allegedly witnessed Bellanger push the woman outside the residence.<\/p>\n

The woman admitted hitting Bellanger during the encounter.<\/p>\n

She told investigators she did so after Bellanger allegedly prevented her from leaving.<\/p>\n

Bellanger Denies Blocking Woman<\/h2>\n

Police later contacted Bellanger about the allegations.<\/p>\n

Bellanger denied preventing the woman from leaving, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

He told investigators that the woman had placed her hands on him.<\/p>\n

No police officer names are included in this report.<\/p>\n

Prior Cases Cited by Prosecutors<\/h2>\n

The felony charge cites Minnesota Statute 609.2242<\/a>, subdivision 4.<\/p>\n

That law can enhance domestic assault to a felony based on qualifying prior offenses.<\/p>\n
