{"id":49408,"date":"2026-09-10T15:41:55","date_gmt":"2026-09-10T20:41:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/?p=49408"},"modified":"2026-09-07T09:40:22","modified_gmt":"2026-09-07T14:40:22","slug":"moorhead-dumont-faces-1st-degree-burglary-charge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/moorhead-dumont-faces-1st-degree-burglary-charge\/","title":{"rendered":"Moorhead: Dumont Faces 1st-Degree Burglary Charge"},"content":{"rendered":"<article>\n<h2>Moorhead: Dumont Faces 1st-Degree Burglary Charge<\/h2>\n<p><strong>MOORHEAD, Minn.<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 Jesse Lee Dumont faces two burglary charges following an alleged break-in at a Moorhead home.<\/p>\n<p>Dumont, 50, is charged in Clay County District Court file 14-CR-26-2648.<\/p>\n<p>The case includes felony first-degree burglary and gross misdemeanor fourth-degree burglary.<\/p>\n<p>The alleged incident happened July 19, 2026.<\/p>\n<h2>Two Men Allegedly Enter Garage<\/h2>\n<p>The complaint says police responded to a burglary report at a Moorhead residence.<\/p>\n<p>The resident reported seeing Dumont and Richard John Erick Dumont-Newago inside his attached garage.<\/p>\n<p>A motion-activated camera reportedly alerted the resident around 10:06 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>The resident told investigators that Dumont-Newago previously had permission to stay at the home.<\/p>\n<p>However, he had been told to leave about two weeks earlier.<\/p>\n<p>The resident said he manually locked the garage and disabled the garage door opener.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators later reported seeing signs of forced entry to the garage door.<\/p>\n<p>Repair costs were estimated at more than $1,000.<\/p>\n<h2>Assault Alleged Inside Residence<\/h2>\n<p>The complaint says the resident returned a television that belonged to Dumont-Newago.<\/p>\n<p>He then told Dumont-Newago to leave, according to prosecutors.<\/p>\n<p>Dumont-Newago allegedly followed the resident inside the home and threatened to assault him.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors allege Dumont-Newago then grabbed and repeatedly struck the resident.<\/p>\n<p>The resident fought back during the confrontation, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n<p>A witness also reported seeing Dumont-Newago threaten people inside the home.<\/p>\n<p>The witness said the resident was slammed into a bathroom door.<\/p>\n<p>Police reported redness and bruising around the resident&#8217;s eyes.<\/p>\n<p>They also reported scratches on his forearms.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint does not allege that Jesse Dumont personally struck the resident.<\/p>\n<p>The burglary charge allows prosecutors to allege direct or accomplice involvement.<\/p>\n<p>No police officer names are included in this report.<\/p>\n<h2>First-Degree Burglary Charge<\/h2>\n<p>Count One charges Dumont with first-degree burglary involving an assault.<\/p>\n<p>The charge cites <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/cite\/609.582\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota Statute 609.582<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A conviction can carry up to 20 years in prison.<\/p>\n<p>A fine of up to $35,000 is also possible.<\/p>\n<p>Count Two alleges fourth-degree burglary involving a misdemeanor committed after entry.<\/p>\n<p>That gross misdemeanor carries up to 364 days in jail.<\/p>\n<p>A fine of up to $3,000 is also possible.<\/p>\n<p>These are maximum penalties and are not sentences against Dumont.<\/p>\n<h2>Charges Remain Allegations<\/h2>\n<p>The criminal complaint contains allegations that have not been proven in court.<\/p>\n<p>Dumont is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint was filed with a summons rather than an order of detention.<\/p>\n<p>Public court records are available through the <a href=\"https:\/\/mncourts.gov\/access-case-records\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota Judicial Branch<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Clay County detention information is available from the <a href=\"https:\/\/claycountymn.gov\/223\/Correctional-Facility\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Clay County Correctional Facility<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m Adrian Cole reporting for <a href=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TRF News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Copyright 2026 TRF News.
