East Grand Forks: Rollover Leads to Felony Charge<\/h2>\n

EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn.<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 Dane Michael Swehla faces felony property-damage and reckless-driving charges in Polk County District Court.<\/p>\n

The charges stem from an incident at Central Middle School.<\/p>\n

Swehla, 21, is charged in court file 60-CR-26-1181.<\/p>\n

The state filed the case by summons.<\/p>\n

Truck Found Rolled Over on Football Field<\/h2>\n

The complaint says police responded to the school’s football field after a truck rolled onto its side.<\/p>\n

Investigators found a gray 2024 GMC Sierra on the field.<\/p>\n

Deep tire ruts were also visible in the grass, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

The vehicle’s occupants were gone when police first arrived.<\/p>\n

Swehla later approached officers in the school parking lot.<\/p>\n

The complaint says he identified the truck as his vehicle.<\/p>\n

He also allegedly admitted driving onto the football field.<\/p>\n

No police officer names are included in this report.<\/p>\n

Video Allegedly Shows High-Speed Driving<\/h2>\n

Investigators later reviewed surveillance video from the school.<\/p>\n

The complaint says the footage showed the truck traveling quickly across the football field.<\/p>\n

The vehicle allegedly tore through the grass while moving across the property.<\/p>\n

It then rolled onto its side within several seconds, prosecutors allege.<\/p>\n

Officials estimated the field damage at $1,135.<\/p>\n

Central Middle School<\/a> is part of East Grand Forks Public Schools.<\/p>\n

Felony Property-Damage Charge<\/h2>\n

Count One charges Swehla with first-degree criminal damage to property.<\/p>\n

The charge cites Minnesota Statute 609.595<\/a>, subdivision 1(4).<\/p>\n

That provision applies when repair or replacement costs exceed $1,000.<\/p>\n

The felony carries a maximum five-year prison sentence.<\/p>\n

It also carries a possible fine of up to $10,000.<\/p>\n

Those are maximum penalties and are not a sentence against Swehla.<\/p>\n

Reckless Driving Charge Also Filed<\/h2>\n

Count Two charges Swehla with misdemeanor reckless driving.<\/p>\n

The count cites Minnesota Statute 169.13<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The law covers driving that consciously disregards a substantial and unjustifiable risk.<\/p>\n

The complaint lists a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail.<\/p>\n

A fine of up to $1,000 is also possible.<\/p>\n

Charges Remain Allegations<\/h2>\n

The criminal complaint contains allegations that have not been proven in court.<\/p>\n

Swehla is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.<\/p>\n
