Bemidji: Johnson Faces Theft, Meth, Fentanyl Charges<\/h2>\n

BEMIDJI, Minn.<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 Bethany Marie Johnson faces theft and controlled-substance charges in Beltrami County District Court.<\/p>\n

Johnson, 35, is charged in court file 04-CR-26-2050.<\/p>\n

The allegations stem from an Aug. 25, 2026, incident at a Bemidji Walmart.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors filed one misdemeanor theft count and one gross misdemeanor drug count.<\/p>\n

Walmart Theft Alleged<\/h2>\n

The complaint says police responded to Walmart at 2025 Paul Bunyan Drive Northwest.<\/p>\n

Store loss prevention workers had stopped Johnson over an alleged retail theft.<\/p>\n

Staff told police Johnson used a different product tag at a self-checkout station.<\/p>\n

The complaint says Johnson stated she was trying to receive a discount.<\/p>\n

Walmart staff then issued Johnson a one-year trespass notice.<\/p>\n

Police also learned Johnson had an outstanding Beltrami County theft warrant.<\/p>\n

She was arrested on that warrant, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

Count One alleges theft of property valued at less than $500.<\/p>\n

The charge cites Minnesota Statute 609.52<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The complaint lists a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail.<\/p>\n

Fentanyl and Meth Allegedly Found<\/h2>\n

Police searched Johnson after her arrest, according to prosecutors.<\/p>\n

The complaint says a small plastic container was found inside her clothing.<\/p>\n

Investigators allegedly found two tinfoil packets inside that container.<\/p>\n

One packet contained a white powder, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

The other reportedly contained a white crystal-like substance.<\/p>\n

Police later field-tested both substances at the Beltrami County Jail.<\/p>\n

The powder allegedly tested positive for fentanyl.<\/p>\n

The crystal-like substance allegedly tested positive for methamphetamine.<\/p>\n

Both drugs are listed as Schedule II controlled substances in the complaint.<\/p>\n

Fifth-Degree Drug Charge Filed<\/h2>\n

Count Two charges Johnson with fifth-degree controlled-substance possession.<\/p>\n

The count cites Minnesota Statute 152.025<\/a>, subdivision 2(a)(1).<\/p>\n

The complaint classifies this count as a gross misdemeanor.<\/p>\n

It lists a maximum penalty of 364 days in jail.<\/p>\n

A fine of up to $3,000 is also listed.<\/p>\n
