Polk County (trfnews.i234.me)<\/a><\/strong> \u2014 Prosecutors have filed a felony complaint in Polk County District Court after a reported crash and arrest in Crookston, according to court records in Minnesota\u2019s Ninth Judicial District.<\/p>\n

The complaint names James Matthew Villarreal<\/strong>, born May 12, 2006, of East Grand Forks, Minnesota<\/strong>, as the defendant.<\/p>\n

Felony and Misdemeanor Charges<\/h2>\n

Villarreal is charged with one felony count of threats of violence<\/strong>, court records say.<\/p>\n

He is also charged with a misdemeanor count of fourth-degree driving while impaired<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Court records say police were dispatched at about 8:52 p.m.<\/strong> on Dec. 17, 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The call was for a motor vehicle accident near the 1300 block of North Front Street<\/strong> in Crookston.<\/p>\n

Records describe a tan 1997 Toyota Camry<\/strong> in a yard.<\/p>\n

The complaint says officers spoke with the vehicle\u2019s registered owner.<\/p>\n

The filing says she told police the car had been used by a family member.<\/p>\n

Court records say Villarreal was located walking away from the scene.<\/p>\n

The complaint describes signs of impairment.<\/p>\n

Those included slurred speech and an odor of alcohol.<\/p>\n

According to the filing, Villarreal first denied involvement.<\/p>\n

Court records say he later admitted driving from East Grand Forks to Crookston.<\/p>\n

The complaint also says he admitted to drinking earlier that day.<\/p>\n
