Tenant Reports Methamphetamine Use<\/h2>\n
The investigation began after a Crookston housing employee contacted police on August 20, 2025.<\/p>\n
The employee reported that a tenant had admitted using methamphetamine inside an Oak Court apartment.<\/p>\n
The tenant, identified as J.C., later spoke with investigators.<\/p>\n
J.C. said a mutual friend connected him with a man known as “Smiley.”<\/p>\n
The friend allegedly said Smiley had a large amount of methamphetamine available for sale.<\/p>\n
J.C. told investigators he contacted Smiley and arranged for methamphetamine to be delivered to his apartment.<\/p>\n
He said the delivery happened on August 17, according to the probable-cause statement.<\/p>\n J.C. said Smiley arrived at Oak Court in a gold-colored minivan.<\/p>\n He told police the two entered his apartment together.<\/p>\n J.C. alleged Smiley carried several bags containing pink methamphetamine.<\/p>\n He also said Smiley brought a scale into the apartment.<\/p>\n According to J.C., Smiley weighed more than one gram of methamphetamine.<\/p>\n J.C. said he paid $50 for the drugs.<\/p>\n He later gave investigators a folded bus card allegedly used during the transaction.<\/p>\n The card tested positive for methamphetamine, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n J.C. also provided a urine sample that tested positive for methamphetamine.<\/p>\n Investigators reviewed surveillance video from outside Oak Court Apartments.<\/p>\n The footage allegedly showed a gold-colored minivan arriving at the building.<\/p>\n Video showed J.C. meeting a man near the vehicle, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n The two then entered the apartment building.<\/p>\n About four minutes later, the man returned to the minivan.<\/p>\n Police identified the man as Ismael Gonzalez Jr. using photographs and driver’s license records.<\/p>\n The charge is filed under Minnesota Statute 152.022<\/a>.<\/p>\n The statute covers methamphetamine sales in school, park, public housing, and certain treatment zones.<\/p>\n The charge carries up to 25 years in prison and a $500,000 fine.<\/p>\n The complaint lists August 20 as the offense date.<\/p>\n However, its probable-cause section describes the alleged sale as occurring on August 17.<\/p>\n The case is State of Minnesota v.
