{"id":46769,"date":"2026-09-07T18:54:09","date_gmt":"2026-09-07T23:54:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/?p=46769"},"modified":"2026-09-04T06:23:51","modified_gmt":"2026-09-04T11:23:51","slug":"mahnomen-man-faces-felony-school-zone-drug-charge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/mahnomen-man-faces-felony-school-zone-drug-charge\/","title":{"rendered":"Mahnomen Man Faces Felony School-Zone Drug Charge"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Mahnomen Man Faces Felony School-Zone Drug Charge<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Mahnomen (<a href=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\">trfnews.i234.me<\/a>)<\/strong> \u2014 Vernon Lee Jackson faces a felony drug charge in Mahnomen County District Court.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors allege Jackson possessed cocaine and methamphetamine near Mahnomen Public High School.<\/p>\n<p>The alleged offense happened on August 14, 2026, during a traffic stop in Mahnomen.<\/p>\n<p>Jackson was a passenger in the stopped vehicle, according to the criminal complaint.<\/p>\n<p>The felony charge carries up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.<\/p>\n<h2>Traffic Stop Near High School<\/h2>\n<p>Law enforcement stopped a vehicle around 9:35 p.m. near Mahnomen Public High School.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint says the vehicle made a short left turn into the opposing traffic lane.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities also reported that a third brake light was not working.<\/p>\n<p>Charles Louis Senogles was identified as the driver.<\/p>\n<p>Jackson was seated in the front passenger seat.<\/p>\n<p>A female passenger was also inside the vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators eventually searched the vehicle after Senogles was arrested during a separate DWI investigation.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"text-align: center; margin: 25px auto;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"max-width: 100%; height: auto; display: inline-block;\" src=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/JACKSON-VERNON-LEE.jpg\" alt=\"Vernon Lee Jackson mugshot\" \/><figcaption>Vernon Lee Jackson<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Suspected Drugs Found<\/h2>\n<p>During the search, police found a small brown glass jar near the center console.<\/p>\n<p>The jar contained a white powdery substance, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n<p>A field test indicated the substance was cocaine.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators also found a black bag on the front passenger floorboard.<\/p>\n<p>The bag contained drug paraphernalia and several paper bindles.<\/p>\n<p>A yellow bindle allegedly tested positive for methamphetamine.<\/p>\n<p>Additional bindles were found inside the passenger-side door handle.<\/p>\n<p>Police collected the items as evidence.<\/p>\n<h2>Jackson Gives Statement<\/h2>\n<p>Senogles denied that the drugs belonged to him, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n<p>Jackson later gave investigators an explanation for the items found near him.<\/p>\n<p>He said Senogles handed him a handful of items during the stop.<\/p>\n<p>Jackson said Senogles told him to hide them.<\/p>\n<p>Jackson admitted placing the items inside the main pocket of his bag, prosecutors allege.<\/p>\n<p>The criminal complaint does not report final laboratory results for the substances.<\/p>\n<p>The charge is based partly on the location and the alleged controlled substances.<\/p>\n<h2>Felony Charge Filed<\/h2>\n<p>Jackson is charged under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/cite\/152.023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Minnesota Statute 152.023<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The statute covers several third-degree controlled-substance crimes.<\/p>\n<p>It includes certain possession offenses occurring within school zones.<\/p>\n<p>The case is State of Minnesota v.
