{"id":46751,"date":"2026-09-07T14:57:10","date_gmt":"2026-09-07T19:57:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/?p=46751"},"modified":"2026-09-04T06:06:33","modified_gmt":"2026-09-04T11:06:33","slug":"gary-address-case-leads-to-felony-registration-charge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/gary-address-case-leads-to-felony-registration-charge\/","title":{"rendered":"Gary Address Case Leads to Felony Registration Charge"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Gary Address Case Leads to Felony Registration Charge<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Gary (<a href=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\">trfnews.i234.me<\/a>)<\/strong> \u2014 Ronalda Myra Smith faces a felony charge over an alleged predatory offender registration violation.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors allege Smith failed to properly update her registered home address with Minnesota authorities.<\/p>\n<p>The charge covers an alleged period from March 12, 2021, through July 23, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The case is filed in Norman County District Court.<\/p>\n<p>A conviction could bring up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.<\/p>\n<h2>Verification Letter Returned<\/h2>\n<p>The investigation followed information from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n<p>The BCA contacted Norman County authorities on July 23, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>A registration verification letter had been mailed earlier that month.<\/p>\n<p>The United States Postal Service returned the letter to the sender.<\/p>\n<p>Smith&#8217;s last registered address was listed in the Gary area of Norman County.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint states Smith was required to keep her home address current with the BCA.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"text-align: center; margin: 25px auto;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"max-width: 100%; height: auto; display: inline-block;\" src=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/SMITH-RONALDA-MYRA.jpg\" alt=\"Ronalda Myra Smith mugshot\" \/><figcaption>Ronalda Myra Smith<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Earlier Address Checks Cited<\/h2>\n<p>Authorities also reviewed earlier registration checks involving Smith.<\/p>\n<p>Those checks followed other returned compliance letters, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n<p>One check was completed in March 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Another was conducted in March 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Reports from those checks allegedly indicated Smith had not lived at the Gary address for several years.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors allege Smith knowingly failed to properly register her actual address.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint does not provide a newer address where authorities believed Smith was living.<\/p>\n<h2>Felony Registration Charge Filed<\/h2>\n<p>Smith is charged under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/cite\/243.166\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Minnesota Statute 243.166<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The law sets registration requirements for people who are legally required to register.<\/p>\n<p>It requires registrants to provide and maintain certain address information.<\/p>\n<p>A knowing violation of those requirements can result in a felony charge.<\/p>\n<p>The statute provides a maximum sentence of five years in prison.<\/p>\n<p>It also allows a fine of up to $10,000.<\/p>\n<p>The case is State of Minnesota v.
