{"id":46739,"date":"2026-09-07T09:57:51","date_gmt":"2026-09-07T14:57:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/?p=46739"},"modified":"2026-09-04T05:55:36","modified_gmt":"2026-09-04T10:55:36","slug":"bemidji-woman-charged-in-home-assault-burglary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/bemidji-woman-charged-in-home-assault-burglary\/","title":{"rendered":"Bemidji Woman Charged in Home Assault, Burglary"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Bemidji Woman Charged in Home Assault, Burglary<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Bemidji (<a href=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\">trfnews.i234.me<\/a>)<\/strong> \u2014 Malerie Jean LaRose faces felony burglary and gross misdemeanor assault charges in Beltrami County District Court.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors allege LaRose kicked a 78-year-old man inside a Bemidji residence.<\/p>\n<p>The alleged incident happened on October 27, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>LaRose faces one count of second-degree burglary and one count of fifth-degree assault.<\/p>\n<p>The burglary charge carries up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.<\/p>\n<h2>Police Respond to Bemidji Home<\/h2>\n<p>Bemidji police responded to a Park Avenue Northwest residence after receiving an assault report.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities spoke with two people at the home, identified as G.C. and O.J.<\/p>\n<p>O.J. owned the residence, according to the criminal complaint.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint says O.J. had bleeding on his face when police arrived.<\/p>\n<p>He also had torn skin around his forearm and elbow.<\/p>\n<p>O.J. told investigators that LaRose had been downstairs with G.C.<\/p>\n<p>He said he did not know LaRose very well.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"text-align: center; margin: 25px auto;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"max-width: 100%; height: auto; display: inline-block;\" src=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/LaroseMalerie1.jpg\" alt=\"Malerie Jean LaRose mugshot\" \/><figcaption>Malerie Jean LaRose<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>O.J. alleged that LaRose kicked him in the face while inside the home.<\/p>\n<p>He said they then struggled on the ground.<\/p>\n<p>The struggle allegedly caused the injuries to his arm and elbow.<\/p>\n<h2>Witness Says LaRose Was Asked to Leave<\/h2>\n<p>G.C. also spoke with investigators about the incident.<\/p>\n<p>G.C. said LaRose was acting out of control, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n<p>She also believed LaRose was intoxicated.<\/p>\n<p>G.C. told police she repeatedly asked LaRose to leave the residence.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors say LaRose remained inside despite those requests.<\/p>\n<p>G.C. reported seeing LaRose kick O.J. in the face.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities later located LaRose near the residence and arrested her.<\/p>\n<h2>Two Charges Filed<\/h2>\n<p>The burglary count is filed under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/cite\/609.582\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Minnesota Statute 609.582<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Minnesota law defines a dwelling as a building used as a residence.<\/p>\n<p>State law also includes remaining inside without consent within its burglary definitions.<\/p>\n<p>Those definitions are available under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/cite\/609.581\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Minnesota Statute 609.581<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The assault count is filed under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/cite\/609.224\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Minnesota Statute 609.224<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That charge carries up to 364 days in jail and a $3,000 fine.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors cite a 2022 assault conviction when explaining the gross misdemeanor charge level.<\/p>\n<p>The case is State of Minnesota v.
