{"id":46719,"date":"2026-09-06T16:46:37","date_gmt":"2026-09-06T21:46:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/?p=46719"},"modified":"2026-09-04T05:29:31","modified_gmt":"2026-09-04T10:29:31","slug":"east-grand-forks-man-faces-felony-gun-charge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/east-grand-forks-man-faces-felony-gun-charge\/","title":{"rendered":"East Grand Forks Man Faces Felony Gun Charge"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>East Grand Forks Man Faces Felony Gun Charge<\/h2>\n<p><strong>East Grand Forks (<a href=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\">trfnews.i234.me<\/a>)<\/strong> \u2014 Jacob Lee Jensen faces a felony firearm charge in Polk County District Court.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors allege Jensen possessed a loaded Smith &amp; Wesson .40-caliber handgun during an August traffic stop.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint says Jensen was prohibited from possessing firearms because of a prior felony conviction.<\/p>\n<p>The alleged offense happened on August 16, 2026, in East Grand Forks.<\/p>\n<p>The charge carries up to 15 years in prison, a $30,000 fine, or both.<\/p>\n<h2>Traffic Stop on DeMers Avenue<\/h2>\n<p>Law enforcement saw a Dodge Ram leave the Fairfield Inn and travel west on Highway 2.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint says several objects were hanging from the rearview mirror.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities believed the objects blocked the driver&#8217;s view.<\/p>\n<p>The pickup was stopped in the 300 block of DeMers Avenue.<\/p>\n<p>Jacob Lee Jensen was identified as the driver.<\/p>\n<p>A female passenger was also inside the pickup.<\/p>\n<p>During the stop, Jensen and the passenger agreed to a search of the vehicle.<\/p>\n<h2>Loaded Handgun Found<\/h2>\n<p>Authorities reported finding a Smith &amp; Wesson .40-caliber handgun near the center console.<\/p>\n<p>The firearm was inside a holster and had a loaded magazine, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators said the handgun was positioned close to Jensen while he was driving.<\/p>\n<p>A records check showed Jensen had prior felony convictions in North Dakota.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint specifically cites a 2025 felony conviction involving theft of a firearm or ammunition.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors allege that conviction prohibited Jensen from possessing a firearm under Minnesota law.<\/p>\n<h2>Jensen Gives Statement<\/h2>\n<p>Authorities arrested Jensen and transported him to the East Grand Forks Police Department.<\/p>\n<p>Jensen then provided a voluntary statement, according to court records.<\/p>\n<p>He said the pickup belonged to his girlfriend&#8217;s father.<\/p>\n<p>Jensen said he had taken the truck to pick up his girlfriend from work.<\/p>\n<p>He acknowledged knowing the handgun was inside the vehicle, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n<p>Jensen also allegedly acknowledged that he was prohibited from possessing firearms.<\/p>\n<p>However, Jensen denied touching the handgun.<\/p>\n<p>He told investigators that his DNA should not be found on the weapon.<\/p>\n<p>Jensen also agreed to provide a DNA sample, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n<h2>Felony Case Filed<\/h2>\n<p>The charge is filed under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/cite\/609.165\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Minnesota Statute 609.165<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The statute restricts firearm possession by certain people convicted of crimes of violence.<\/p>\n<p>The case is filed as State of Minnesota v.
