Waubun Man Gets Jail, Probation After 90 MPH Chase<\/h2>\n

White Earth (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>)<\/strong> \u2014 Dustin Alan Jackson, 32, of rural Waubun, has been sentenced for felony fleeing a peace officer.<\/p>\n

The sentence was issued August 5 in Becker County District Court.<\/p>\n

Judge Gretchen Thilmony sentenced Jackson to 10 months in prison at St. Cloud.<\/p>\n

The prison term was stayed for three years.<\/p>\n

Jackson was ordered to serve 112 days in the Becker County Jail.<\/p>\n

He was also fined $50 and assessed $160 in court fees.<\/p>\n

Chase Reached About 90 MPH<\/h2>\n

The case began shortly after 1 a.m. on April 15 in White Earth village.<\/p>\n

Court records say a Becker County deputy knew Jackson had an active felony warrant.<\/p>\n

The deputy saw Jackson driving and activated emergency lights to make a traffic stop.<\/p>\n

Jackson did not stop, according to the criminal complaint.<\/p>\n

Instead, he accelerated and reached speeds of about 90 mph.<\/p>\n

Court records say Jackson also drove into the opposing traffic lane.<\/p>\n

He then ran a stop sign while the deputy continued the pursuit.<\/p>\n

The chase continued until Jackson reached the area of his driveway.<\/p>\n

PIT Maneuver Ends Pursuit<\/h2>\n

The deputy then used a PIT maneuver against Jackson’s vehicle.<\/p>\n

The maneuver caused the vehicle to leave the roadway and stop in brush.<\/p>\n

Jackson then left the vehicle and ran toward his residence.<\/p>\n

The deputy followed Jackson on foot and repeatedly ordered him to stop.<\/p>\n

Court records say a Taser was then used before Jackson was arrested.<\/p>\n

Jackson later spoke with the deputy about why he fled.<\/p>\n

He said he did not want to go to jail and was scared.<\/p>\n

Minnesota law<\/a> defines fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle.<\/p>\n

The law includes refusing to stop after an officer gives a signal.<\/p>\n

Three Years of Supervised Probation<\/h2>\n

Jackson’s conviction resulted in a stayed prison sentence and county jail time.<\/p>\n

The court also placed Jackson on supervised probation for three years.<\/p>\n

Jackson was ordered not to drink alcohol or use illegal drugs.<\/p>\n

He must complete a comprehensive assessment and follow all recommendations.<\/p>\n

Jackson must also complete cognitive skills training.<\/p>\n

The court ordered him to complete a mental health evaluation.<\/p>\n

He must follow recommendations from those programs, including required aftercare.<\/p>\n
