{"id":46625,"date":"2026-09-06T10:23:04","date_gmt":"2026-09-06T15:23:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/?p=46625"},"modified":"2026-09-03T06:04:58","modified_gmt":"2026-09-03T11:04:58","slug":"crookston-woman-charged-after-3-year-old-found-alone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/crookston-woman-charged-after-3-year-old-found-alone\/","title":{"rendered":"Crookston Woman Charged After 3-Year-Old Found Alone"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Crookston Woman Charged After 3-Year-Old Found Alone<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Crookston (<a href=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\">trfnews.i234.me<\/a>)<\/strong> \u2014 Bree Lynn Olson faces a gross misdemeanor child neglect charge in Polk County District Court.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors allege Olson failed to provide proper supervision for her 3-year-old child on July 15, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The child was found alone near West Robert Street in Crookston, according to the criminal complaint.<\/p>\n<p>The charge carries up to 364 days in jail, a $3,000 fine, or both.<\/p>\n<h2>Child Found Near Bridge<\/h2>\n<p>The complaint says a woman driving to work spotted the young child around 7:05 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>She reported seeing the child walking in grass near West Robert Street while wearing only a diaper.<\/p>\n<p>The child then ran toward a bridge and down the riverbank, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n<p>The woman was able to get the child to come with her.<\/p>\n<p>Law enforcement said the child was active and nonverbal.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities were initially unable to determine the child\u2019s name or identify a parent.<\/p>\n<p>Polk County Social Services was contacted while investigators worked to identify the child.<\/p>\n<h2>Investigators Contact Olson<\/h2>\n<p>Authorities later believed the child belonged to Bree Lynn Olson.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint says investigators called Olson but received no answer.<\/p>\n<p>Social services workers later identified Olson as the child\u2019s mother, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n<p>The child was placed with Polk County Social Services.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"text-align: center; margin: 25px auto;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"max-width: 100%; height: auto; display: inline-block;\" src=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/OLSON-BREE-LYNN.jpg\" alt=\"Bree Lynn Olson mugshot\" \/><figcaption>Bree Lynn Olson<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Authorities went to Olson\u2019s home around 8:55 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint says three other children were looking outside through a window.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators reported the window screen was removed.<\/p>\n<p>Two young children were standing just inside the open window, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities believed the children could have climbed through it.<\/p>\n<p>The children told investigators that Olson was sleeping inside the home.<\/p>\n<p>They woke Olson, who then came to the door.<\/p>\n<p>Police told Olson the 3-year-old had been found and was safe.<\/p>\n<h2>Earlier Incident Cited<\/h2>\n<p>The complaint also describes an earlier incident involving the same child.<\/p>\n<p>On May 21, 2026, a bus driver found the child walking near East Third Street.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities identified the child and Olson during that earlier incident.<\/p>\n<p>The new case alleges Olson willfully failed to provide supervision appropriate for the child\u2019s age.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors say the alleged lack of supervision could have caused substantial harm.<\/p>\n<h2>Case Filed in Polk County<\/h2>\n<p>Olson is charged under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/cite\/609.378\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Minnesota Statute 609.378<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The statute covers neglect involving necessary supervision, food, shelter, health care, or other basic needs.<\/p>\n<p>The case is filed under court number 60-CR-26-1159.<\/p>\n<p>Public court records can be searched through <a href=\"https:\/\/mncourts.gov\/access-case-records\/mcro\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Minnesota Court Records Online<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The criminal complaint contains allegations and is not a finding of guilt.<\/p>\n<p>Olson is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m Adrian Cole reporting for <a href=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\">TRF News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Copyright 2026 TRF News.
