Warroad Woman Faces Felony Animal Cruelty Charge<\/h2>\n

Warroad<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 A Warroad woman faces a felony animal cruelty charge involving the death of a dog.<\/p>\n

Jazmin Dawn Meyer, 19, is charged in Roseau County District Court.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors allege the dog died after being deprived of necessary food, water, shelter, or care.<\/p>\n

The charge stems from events beginning in January 2026 at a rural Warroad residence.<\/p>\n

Dead Dog Reported Inside Home<\/h2>\n

Law enforcement first received information about a deceased dog on January 9.<\/p>\n

Meyer told authorities the dog had been fed, according to the criminal complaint.<\/p>\n

She reportedly believed the dog may have gotten into something inside the home.<\/p>\n

Meyer also said she planned to arrange for disposal of the animal.<\/p>\n

Later that month, another person reported seeing the dog inside a metal kennel.<\/p>\n

The witness said the kennel contained feces and the trailer had no heat.<\/p>\n

The witness said he did not know whether the dog had frozen or starved.<\/p>\n

Authorities returned in February after the property owner reported finding the dog inside the abandoned residence.<\/p>\n

The complaint says the dog’s ribs and spine were visible.<\/p>\n

Authorities then arranged for the remains to undergo a veterinary examination.<\/p>\n

Veterinary Review Cites Severe Starvation<\/h2>\n

Investigators later received results from a bone marrow fat analysis.<\/p>\n

The dog’s bone marrow fat measured 0.4%, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

The veterinary report compared that figure with an average of 59.4% in healthy dogs.<\/p>\n

The report described the animal as severely thin with major muscle loss.<\/p>\n

Veterinary findings supported severe and long-term starvation, prosecutors allege.<\/p>\n

The report estimated the dog likely suffered for weeks and possibly months before dying.<\/p>\n

It also concluded that basic food, water, and care could have prevented the suffering.<\/p>\n

Felony Charge Filed<\/h2>\n

Meyer faces one felony count under Minnesota’s animal cruelty law.<\/p>\n

The charge carries up to two years in prison.<\/p>\n

It also carries a possible fine of up to $5,000.<\/p>\n

The case is filed as Roseau County court file 68-CR-26-400.<\/p>\n
