Moorhead Man Charged After Apartment Camera Damage<\/h2>\n

Moorhead<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 A Moorhead man faces a gross misdemeanor property damage charge following an apartment building disturbance.<\/p>\n

Salih Ahmad Kasim, 42, is charged with third-degree damage to property in Clay County District Court.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors allege Kasim caused more than $500 in damage inside his apartment building on August 6, 2026.<\/p>\n

The case is filed as Clay County court file 14-CR-26-2796.<\/p>\n

Neighbor Reports Hallway Disturbance<\/h2>\n

According to the criminal complaint, Kasim was in a hallway of his Moorhead apartment building.<\/p>\n

Investigators say he was yelling while swinging a mop inside the building.<\/p>\n

Kasim allegedly struck a surveillance camera several times with the mop.<\/p>\n

The complaint says the camera eventually fell from its mounted position onto the floor.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors allege Kasim then picked up the damaged camera.<\/p>\n

He allegedly threw the camera into his apartment after knocking it down.<\/p>\n

The disturbance continued near a fire extinguisher mounted in the hallway, according to court records.<\/p>\n

Kasim allegedly swung the mop toward the fire extinguisher case.<\/p>\n

The strike broke glass covering the extinguisher, the complaint states.<\/p>\n

Police Respond To Apartment Building<\/h2>\n

A neighbor contacted police to report the disturbance.<\/p>\n

Officers arrived and spoke with Kasim and a witness at the building.<\/p>\n

Kasim was arrested following the investigation, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

The resident manager later provided police with an estimate of the property damage.<\/p>\n

The manager said the damage would exceed $500.<\/p>\n

The charge applies when property damage exceeds $500 but does not exceed $1,000.<\/p>\n

Gross Misdemeanor Charge Filed<\/h2>\n

Kasim faces one count of third-degree damage to property.<\/p>\n

The charge carries a maximum sentence of 364 days in jail.<\/p>\n

It also carries a possible fine of up to $3,000.<\/p>\n
