{"id":44190,"date":"2026-08-20T17:57:39","date_gmt":"2026-08-20T22:57:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/?p=44190"},"modified":"2026-08-15T20:31:23","modified_gmt":"2026-08-16T01:31:23","slug":"warroad-border-stop-leads-to-felony-meth-charge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/warroad-border-stop-leads-to-felony-meth-charge\/","title":{"rendered":"Warroad Border Stop Leads to Felony Meth Charge"},"content":{"rendered":"<article>\n<h2>Warroad Border Stop Leads to Felony Meth Charge<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Warroad<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\">trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 A Boy River man faces a felony methamphetamine charge after a border inspection near Warroad.<\/p>\n<p>Clayton Leslie Weyer, 63, is charged with second-degree controlled substance possession.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors allege Weyer possessed at least 25 grams of a mixture containing methamphetamine.<\/p>\n<p>The case is filed in Roseau County District Court as 68-CR-26-461.<\/p>\n<h2>Vehicle Arrives At Warroad Border Crossing<\/h2>\n<p>The investigation began around 7:45 p.m. on August 6, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>A vehicle carrying Weyer arrived at the Warroad Point of Entry, according to the criminal complaint.<\/p>\n<p>The occupants reportedly said they had been working on docks near the border crossing.<\/p>\n<p>They said they were looking for food and accidentally reached Canadian customs.<\/p>\n<p>Canadian authorities turned the vehicle around, and it returned to the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Border officers then directed the occupants to a secondary inspection area.<\/p>\n<p>Both occupants reportedly denied having drugs inside the vehicle.<\/p>\n<h2>Backpack Allegedly Contains Meth And Drug Items<\/h2>\n<p>During the search, officers found a tan military-style backpack in the truck bed.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint says the backpack contained a plastic bag holding a white crystal-like substance.<\/p>\n<p>Officers also found two glass pipes, a scale, a torch lighter, and small plastic bags.<\/p>\n<p>Another used glass pipe was reportedly found beneath the driver&#8217;s seat.<\/p>\n<p>A field test returned a presumptive positive result for methamphetamine, according to prosecutors.<\/p>\n<p>The substance and its plastic bag weighed approximately 34.5 grams.<\/p>\n<p>Weyer was then turned over to the Roseau County Sheriff&#8217;s Office.<\/p>\n<h2>Weyer Allegedly Admits Meth Was His<\/h2>\n<p>After receiving a Miranda warning, Weyer agreed to speak with investigators.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint says Weyer identified the substance as methamphetamine.<\/p>\n<p>He allegedly said the meth was intended for his personal use.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators also asked whether he planned to sell the methamphetamine.<\/p>\n<p>Weyer reportedly said he sometimes passed some along to close friends.<\/p>\n<p>He denied selling methamphetamine to anyone locally, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n<p>Weyer was arrested and taken to the Roseau County Detention Center.<\/p>\n<h2>Felony Charge Carries Up To 25 Years<\/h2>\n<p>The second-degree drug charge carries a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison.<\/p>\n<p>It also carries a possible fine of up to $500,000.<\/p>\n<p>Readers can review <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/cite\/152.022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota Statute 152.022<\/a> for second-degree drug offenses.<\/p>\n<p>Information about border inspections is available from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbp.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">U.S. Customs and Border Protection<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The charge is an allegation and has not been proven in court.<\/p>\n<p>Weyer is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m Adrian Cole reporting for <a href=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\">TRF News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Copyright 2026 TRF News.
