{"id":44188,"date":"2026-08-19T04:54:20","date_gmt":"2026-08-19T09:54:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/?p=44188"},"modified":"2026-08-15T20:28:08","modified_gmt":"2026-08-16T01:28:08","slug":"nay-tah-waush-fight-leads-to-robbery-assault-charges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/nay-tah-waush-fight-leads-to-robbery-assault-charges\/","title":{"rendered":"Nay Tah Waush Fight Leads to Robbery, Assault Charges"},"content":{"rendered":"<article>\n<h2>Nay Tah Waush Fight Leads to Robbery, Assault Charges<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Nay Tah Waush<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\">trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 A Bagley man faces two felonies after an alleged assault and robbery in Mahnomen County.<\/p>\n<p>Brian Wayne Crabtree, 40, is charged with simple robbery and third-degree assault.<\/p>\n<p>The charges stem from an alleged June 16, 2026, fight near Nay Tah Waush.<\/p>\n<p>The case is filed in Mahnomen County District Court as 44-CR-26-353.<\/p>\n<h2>Victim Reports Sudden Attack<\/h2>\n<p>Law enforcement responded to the Nay Tah Waush area after receiving a report of an assault.<\/p>\n<p>The victim was later located at another residence with visible injuries, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n<p>He told investigators that he had gone to a nearby trailer to speak with another person.<\/p>\n<p>Crabtree allegedly opened the door when the victim arrived.<\/p>\n<p>The victim said Crabtree then punched him several times without warning.<\/p>\n<p>The two men fell to the ground during the fight, according to prosecutors.<\/p>\n<p>The victim alleged Joseph John Sudar Jr. then struck him while the fight continued.<\/p>\n<p>Sudar later denied joining the fight.<\/p>\n<p>He told investigators that he tried to pull the victim away from Crabtree.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"text-align: center; margin: 25px auto;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"display: block; margin: 0px auto; max-width: 500px; width: 170px; height: 227px;\" src=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/CRABTREE-BRIAN-WAYNE.jpg\" alt=\"Brian Wayne Crabtree mugshot\" \/><figcaption style=\"text-align: center;\">Brian Wayne Crabtree<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Phone Allegedly Taken After Fight<\/h2>\n<p>The victim told investigators that Crabtree took his Samsung A26 phone after the assault.<\/p>\n<p>The phone was valued at about $100.<\/p>\n<p>Police reported seeing blood on the victim&#8217;s face, head, ears, and neck.<\/p>\n<p>His injuries included a large cut on his head and several lumps on his neck.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators also documented bleeding gums, a loose tooth, a jammed thumb, and leg pain.<\/p>\n<p>Photographs were taken of the injuries, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n<h2>Witness Says Crabtree Left Area<\/h2>\n<p>Julia Holm told investigators she had been with Crabtree in Nay Tah Waush that day.<\/p>\n<p>Holm said she remained in a vehicle while Crabtree was near the trailer.<\/p>\n<p>She reported seeing Crabtree and the victim go to the ground during a fight.<\/p>\n<p>Holm said the victim had blood on his face afterward.<\/p>\n<p>She and Crabtree then left the area, according to her statement.<\/p>\n<p>Holm said Crabtree later exited the vehicle and ran into the woods.<\/p>\n<h2>Two Felony Charges Filed<\/h2>\n<p>Simple robbery carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.<\/p>\n<p>It also carries a possible fine of up to $20,000.<\/p>\n<p>Third-degree assault carries up to five years in prison and a possible $10,000 fine.<\/p>\n<p>Readers can review <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/cite\/609.24\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota Statute 609.24<\/a> for simple robbery.<\/p>\n<p>The assault charge is covered by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/cite\/609.223\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota Statute 609.223<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.<\/p>\n<p>Crabtree is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m Adrian Cole reporting for <a href=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\">TRF News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Copyright 2026 TRF News.
