Bemidji Man Charged in Kestrel Pines Shooting<\/h2>\n

Bemidji<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 A Bemidji man faces a felony assault charge following a July shooting.<\/p>\n

Vincent Michael Parkhurst Jr., 27, is charged with second-degree assault using a dangerous weapon.<\/p>\n

The charge stems from a July 19, 2026, shooting near Kestrel Pines in Bemidji.<\/p>\n

Parkhurst Found With Gunshot Wound<\/h2>\n

Police responded around 10:39 p.m. after a wounded man entered a nearby hotel.<\/p>\n

Officers identified the wounded man as Parkhurst, according to the criminal complaint.<\/p>\n

Police reported an entrance and exit wound near his left shoulder.<\/p>\n

Parkhurst initially said he heard three gunshots while walking near Kestrel Pines.<\/p>\n

He told police he did not see who fired the shots.<\/p>\n

Parkhurst was taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment.<\/p>\n

Investigators later connected Terrance Lee Jones Jr. to the shooting.<\/p>\n

Jones told police he fired one or two shots at a man wearing black clothing.<\/p>\n

Revolver Recovered From Hotel Roof<\/h2>\n

Investigators reviewed surveillance video from the hotel and Kestrel Pines.<\/p>\n

The complaint says hotel video showed Parkhurst running beside the building.<\/p>\n

He allegedly threw an object onto the hotel roof before entering the building.<\/p>\n

Police later recovered a .22-caliber revolver from the roof.<\/p>\n

The revolver contained four spent rounds and five unfired rounds, according to prosecutors.<\/p>\n

Surveillance from Kestrel Pines also captured part of the confrontation.<\/p>\n

The complaint says video appeared to show Jones firing toward a man believed to be Parkhurst.<\/p>\n

The man believed to be Parkhurst then appeared to fire back at Jones.<\/p>\n

Investigators estimated the exchange happened around 10:40 p.m.<\/p>\n

Parkhurst Says Jones Fired First<\/h2>\n

Parkhurst was arrested July 24 and later gave investigators a statement.<\/p>\n

He said a cousin told him someone had displayed a gun during an earlier confrontation.<\/p>\n

Parkhurst said he grabbed his .22-caliber revolver and went outside.<\/p>\n

He told police that Jones fired at him first.<\/p>\n

Parkhurst said he returned fire and was then shot.<\/p>\n

He said he ran toward the hotel and threw his revolver onto the roof.<\/p>\n

Parkhurst told investigators he did not intend to shoot anyone.<\/p>\n

Felony Assault Charge Filed<\/h2>\n

Prosecutors charged Parkhurst with second-degree assault involving a dangerous weapon.<\/p>\n

The charge carries up to seven years in prison and a $14,000 fine.<\/p>\n

The complaint also lists a three-year mandatory minimum sentence.<\/p>\n
